Winter weather often brings cold rain and temperature fluctuations, causing a common issue for many drivers: a foggy windshield. This annoying problem occurs when humid air meets cold glass, leading to condensation inside the car as temperatures rise in the morning.

Most modern vehicles have a button on the air conditioning control panel to direct airflow from the heating system towards the windshield, helping to clear this area. However, many drivers may find this process time-consuming and frustrating.
Recently, a driving instructor from the UK shared some useful tips on how to effectively and easily defog a windshield. According to this expert, if you want to speed up the warming process, avoid turning the heating system to its maximum setting. In fact, doing so can do more harm than good as it creates a significant temperature difference between the inside and outside of the car.

Instead, first turn on the air conditioning as usual and set the fan to its highest speed. This helps to dry the air inside. Note that you should not select the recirculation mode, as this will make the inside of the car warmer faster, but the humidity will remain inside. Therefore, choose the outside air intake mode to push the humid air out.
“The next step is to turn on the glass defroster function to direct the airflow towards the windshield. Gradually increase the temperature after a few minutes to clear the condensation,” added the driving instructor.
Finally, always have a clean cloth ready to wipe the windshield again. If the windshield is not completely free of moisture, it can obstruct the driver’s vision and lead to unsafe driving conditions. In some countries, such as the UK, drivers can be fined £2,500 (VND 81 million) and have three points deducted from their driving license.
