British nutritionist Jacquie Newson has some advice on how to detox alcohol efficiently, according to femalefirst.co.uk.
Eat more ginger
Feeling nauseous? Alcohol can be really uncomfortable for the stomach lining and can stimulate the production of excess acid in the stomach. That’s why we often feel nauseous and vomit a lot in the morning after a night of heavy drinking. Recent research has found that sipping hot ginger tea throughout the day can help relieve nausea and uncomfortable stomach feelings.
Boost natural glutathione levels
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that helps detoxify the liver after a night of excessive drinking. However, when we drink too much alcohol, the glutathione levels in our body are severely depleted. Therefore, we need to protect our liver by consuming glutathione-rich foods such as fresh vegetables including tomatoes, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts, as well as garlic and raw eggs.
Don’t let your body become dehydrated
Alcohol is a diuretic that can cause dehydration when consumed in large quantities, so make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day as hydration is key to helping the body recover quickly after a heavy drinking session.
Supplement with vitamin C
Vitamin C can accelerate the liver’s detoxification ability, so supplementing with vitamin C-rich foods like oranges, grapefruits… is essential to help detox alcohol.
