2 What’s special about the nameless dumpling noodle shop in Le Van Sy alley, Phu Nhuan?
Three generations of dedication
This shop was opened by the shop owner’s parents before 1975. They are Chinese people from Guangdong, who came to Saigon to make a living and opened a shop selling traditional family noodles.
After the father passed away, the shop owner’s mother took over the shop. After 1975, when he was over 30 years old, Uncle Suon and his mother ran the shop together. After getting married, the couple continued to maintain the eatery opened by their parents.
Uncle Suon and his wife have no children. In 2003, his wife passed away, and he continued to run the noodle business to make a living. Now, at this age, he has handed over the noodle shop to his grandchildren, who are children of his in-laws. However, he still comes to the shop every day to minimize his nostalgia for the shop and the customers. When he is healthy, he still works. On tired days, he just sits and watches his grandchildren take care of his little kingdom.
