About guava tree

The guava tree belongs to the fruit-bearing type of tree, with hard wood stems. Its scientific name is Psidium guyjava L. and it originated from tropical America. It belongs to the Myrtaceae – Myrtle family. The guava tree has an average height of about 5 – 7m and its wide canopy makes it suitable for planting in open spaces. The guava leaves are oval-shaped, about 10 – 15cm long and 5 – 7cm wide, with thorny tips. The guava flowers are hermaphrodite and can grow in clusters. The flowers are white, delicate, and easily shed.

In Vietnam, guava trees are well-known fruit trees and are grown in various provinces and cities. Guava leaves are also commonly used as an accompaniment to nem, a popular Vietnamese dish. Guava leaves are also a medicinal herb in folk medicine and traditional medicine.

Guava is a fruit rich in vitamin C. It is not an expensive fruit but is widely recognized and loved for its many benefits. There are different varieties of guava such as guava gang, guava fat, guava buffalo, guava peach, guava se,… In the past, guava was mainly planted for its fruits and leaves, but recently it has been popularized as a bonsai tree for home decoration.
