Nowadays, many ride-hailing drivers increase their income by sticking advertising decals on both sides of their car doors. Over time, these decals will fade, crack, or tear and need to be replaced.
However, when removing decals from the car, you need to do it carefully to avoid any adhesive residue or even unwanted scratches. Here are some ways to help users quickly and cleanly remove car decals.
1. Peel off the decal layer
Do it in a shady area
Working directly under the sun can make the adhesive of the decal stick to the car body, making it difficult for you to peel them off. Therefore, you should park the car indoors or choose a shady area to remove the decal.
Note: do not remove the decal at low temperatures as it will be easily torn into smaller pieces and leave residue from the adhesive.
Use a plastic scraper to peel off the decal edges
First, try to gently peel off the decal edges with your fingernails. If you cannot use your fingernails to separate the decal edges, then you have to use a plastic scraper for this task.
You can purchase a plastic scraper tool at car accessories or toy stores. Absolutely do not use metal razor blades to avoid unnecessary scratches.
Heat the decal with a hairdryer
After peeling off the decal edges, use a hairdryer about 15 cm away from the decal and heat it onto the surface for about 30 seconds to melt the adhesive and make it stick to the decal instead of sticking back to your car. When heated, pull the decal edges strongly to see if it easily comes off.
Pull the decal at a 15-20 degree angle with the car surface
Use your thumbs inside the decal and slowly pull it up so that it tilts at an angle of 15 to 20 degrees relative to the surface of the car body. Try to keep the decal intact while removing it.
Avoid peeling off the decal at a 90-degree angle as it will make the adhesive stick back to your car. Repeat the above steps until the decal is completely removed from the car.
2. Remove remaining adhesive
Use adhesive remover
Spray or apply adhesive remover on the remaining sticky areas on the car body. Leave the remover on for 1 minute to allow it to penetrate into the sticky residue. Adhesive removers can easily be purchased from repair garages or supermarkets.
Clean the adhesive residue with a soft clean cloth
Use a soft cloth to clean the sticky residue on the car. Rub forcefully on the areas where you want to remove the adhesive.
If the soft cloth cannot remove the sticky residue, try scraping it off with a plastic scraper or rubber brush. Once finished, the car surface will be smoother instead of sticky when touched.
Clean the adhesive remover off the car surface
If the adhesive remover remains on the car surface, it can create stains, so use a cloth soaked in soapy water to wipe the areas you just cleaned with the remover.
After completing the above steps and letting the car surface dry, you can polish the car paint. This polishing layer will protect the car paint and make the car look shiny and beautiful.
In general, applying decals to a car is usually only done for a short period and then many car owners have to remove them when they are no longer suitable for their purpose.
However, the removal process also requires you to be patient and calm because this task is quite tedious, sometimes meticulous in every detail, which can make the doer feel annoyed.
