People in Saigon are currently experiencing days of social distancing according to directive 16 to ensure effective pandemic prevention. Buying groceries and food during this time will require more calculation and planning than before.

Many families choose to buy a large quantity of essential products, fresh food such as vegetables and meat that can last for a few days.

Not only that, but “necessity is the mother of invention” has also led to the emergence of various food storage methods during this time.

Cẩm Hằng (FB Hannah Bui) who is currently living in Saigon has also shared a secret to store her fresh onions and cilantro. Cẩm Hằng’s method has been followed by many mothers because it helps to keep the ingredients fresh and delicious for up to 1 month.

Hannah Bùi is happy that her experience can help many people, especially during the pandemic. “In this social distancing period, it’s not easy to buy vegetables, and it’s even harder to keep them fresh and green. I hope this little trick will help people always have fresh and green dishes,” Hannah shared.

Hannah’s tip is simple but effective:

Step 1: After buying vegetables or onions, you wash them thoroughly and let them drain.

Step 2: Chop them into small pieces, put them in a box, and store them in the freezer.

Many families often only store vegetables in the refrigerator. The temperature in this compartment is cool enough to keep vegetables fresh for a few days, then the vegetables will start to spoil. Therefore, if you want them to last longer, you need to put them in the freezer, which can extend their freshness for a few weeks, or even a month.

When using them, Hannah revealed that you should never thaw them. This step can cause the vegetables to lose their beautiful green color.

As for onions and cilantro, Hannah Bùi puts them directly into the soup pot right after turning off the stove. For vegetables to cook, you should add them to the pot when the water is boiling.

“This little trick can also be applied to tomatoes. Just wash and cut them, then put them in a freezer-safe container,” Hannah Bùi shared.

This little tip helps vegetables stay green, fresh, and more visually appealing. Green vegetables are very nutritious for the body, especially as they can enhance immune function and provide essential vitamins during the pandemic.

In addition, this method can also be applied to other types of vegetables and fruits. Many mothers have tried and found it effective:
