Using Fabric Softener
To make your clothes smell even better, you should use fabric softener during the washing process. It is best to use fabric softener during the rinse cycle to ensure that your clothes are completely free of soap in the first rinse.
Soak your clothes in fabric softener for 10-15 minutes to allow the scent to penetrate deep into the fabric fibers, making your clothes and your family smell fresh for longer and avoiding unpleasant odors caused by bacteria that often appear during the rainy season.
Drain the water from the clothes before drying
Having a washing machine that can dry your clothes is great. But if you don’t have one at home, don’t worry, you can hand squeeze your clothes. Squeeze each small portion tightly after hanging it up to minimize moisture in the clothes pile.
Squeeze out as much water as possible when drying clothes in winter, as it helps clothes dry faster and lessens the chance of musty odors.
Soak in hot water
After washing, we can soak the clothes in hot water around 50 degrees, then wring them out and hang them up immediately. The evaporative effect of hot water will shorten the drying time of the clothes. However, do not use this method frequently as the high temperature can potentially reduce the quality of the fabric.
Properly hang clothes to dry
It is best to choose a wide and sunny space to hang your clothes. If your house does not have enough space to meet this requirement, you still need to ensure that the clothes can be dried under the sun. It is best to hang clothes in the morning to take advantage of the maximum sunlight. Especially when hanging, stretch the clothes on ropes or hangers to enhance the effectiveness of the sunlight.
Another tip is to hang pants upside down with the waistband and pockets down for thick fabric pants. Hanging pants upside down helps water drain faster, especially for jeans, dress pants or those made of thick materials. Avoid using a fan to dry clothes as it can cause the water to condense, making the clothes take longer to dry in wet weather.
Properly store clothes
After washing and drying, make sure everything is completely dry before folding and storing them in the closet. Just one damp piece of clothing can cause an unpleasant musty odor in your entire wardrobe.
Also, avoid placing your wardrobe in a high humidity environment or in places prone to dampness. For off-season clothes that need to be put away, place them in nylon bags and add a few moisture absorbers or scented sachets in the wardrobe to reduce odors from the clothes.
Eliminate odors with vodka
The most common thick fabrics in winter, such as wool, fur, velvet… tend to develop odors after being exposed to damp weather or stored for a long time in the closet. To address this issue, you need some vodka.
Pour a little vodka into a spray bottle (you can dilute it with water at a ratio of 1:1 if the odor is not too strong) and spray it onto the clothes. Vodka effectively eliminates odors without leaving a scent on your clothes. After spraying, simply hang the clothes in a dry and airy place to quickly get rid of the odor.
