Forgetting to Use Sunscreen Daily
Using sunscreen daily is the most basic habit for skin care. However, many people neglect this. Sunscreen not only protects the skin from direct sunlight but also shields it from UV rays emitted by computer and phone screens, which we are constantly exposed to.
Going Out Immediately After Applying Sunscreen
If you’re using a physical sunscreen, this isn’t an issue. However, if you’re using a chemical sunscreen, it’s important to apply it 20 minutes before going out to allow it to absorb into the skin for the best protection. Regardless of the type, always wait for the sunscreen to absorb before applying makeup or additional layers.
Not Cleansing the Skin Before and After
It’s mandatory to cleanse your skin before applying sunscreen. At the end of the day, make sure to remove all traces of sunscreen, even if you haven’t worn makeup. Leaving sunscreen on your skin for extended periods can lead to clogged pores and skin issues.
Applying Too Little or Too Much Sunscreen
Applying sunscreen too thickly may not provide better protection and can increase the risk of clogged pores, acne, and skin irritation. On the other hand, applying too little sunscreen will not adequately protect your skin. The recommended amount of sunscreen is approximately 2 mg per 1 cm2 of skin, which is equivalent to a coin-sized amount for the face and neck, and 3-4 coins for the body.
Not Choosing the Right SPF
SPF only indicates the duration of protection and not the strength. Sunscreens with SPF 60 and above tend to focus more on UVB protection than UVA, which can lead to clogged pores. These are suitable for extended outdoor activities like traveling or beach vacations. For daily use, SPF 30-50 is sufficient, but remember to reapply every 2-3 hours for optimal protection.
