Eye bags occur when the structure of the eye muscles and supporting tissues weaken, causing the skin to sag and the fat around the eyes to accumulate in the hollows below. Here are some eye massage tips that women can refer to for reducing eye bags.

Massage the skin around the eye bags

Place your index fingers on both sides of the nose bridge and gently massage the skin below the eyes, following the cheekbone and moving towards the temples. Then, gently tap upwards on the upper eyelid and move back down to the nose bridge. Repeat the circular motion a few more times, taking deep breaths when touching around the eyes.

V-sign for reducing eye bags

Place your middle finger on both sides of the nose (near the inner corner of the eye) and extend your index finger to the outer edge of the eye so that your fingers form a “V” shape. Look up towards the forehead and face. Slightly lift your lower eyelids to make your eyes half-closed. Your vision will be slightly blurred, and you will feel a slight vibration in the upper eyelids.

Eye Yoga

Place one hand on your forehead with the palm facing down, move your eyes to look up at the ceiling, and then look down at the floor. Try to keep the movement smooth and continuous as much as possible.

Move your eyes up and down, then switch to looking from right to left and vice versa. After about 30 seconds, bring your eyes back to the center. Open your eyes as wide as possible and take a deep breath. Finally, lower your hand.

Massage the cheekbones

Gently place the tip of your index, middle, and ring fingers on the highest point of the cheekbones. Slowly massage in a circular motion, combined with pushing the cheeks upwards. After 30 seconds, lower your hand.

Eye muscle lifting

Use your index and middle fingers to apply pressure from the inside corner of the nose to the temples. Pull the skin taut until the outer corner of the eye. Then, use the palm of your hand to press on the eye bags and lift the eyes along a diagonal line until you feel your eyes narrow to the maximum extent. Repeat this process 3 times to minimize the formation of eye bags.

Massage the neck area

Place your index, middle, and ring fingers along the neck, from the earlobe straight down to the collarbone. This motion not only helps improve blood circulation, minimize turtle neck, but also promotes healthy habits and body posture adjustment.

Frequently asked questions

There are several effective eye massage exercises that can help with these issues. One is the ‘V shape’ exercise, which involves using your middle and index fingers to apply gentle pressure to the inner corner of your eyes and sliding them up to your temples in a V shape. Another is the ‘circular motion’ exercise, where you use your middle and index fingers to gently massage your under-eye area in a circular motion, moving from the inner to the outer corner. The ‘brow bone’ exercise is also beneficial, where you use your middle and index fingers to apply firm pressure to your brow bone and slide them outwards towards your temples.

Eye massage exercises improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage in the eye area, reducing fluid retention and promoting the elimination of toxins. This helps to reduce the appearance of eye bags and dark circles, and also tightens the skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Regular eye massage can also help relieve eye strain and fatigue, and improve overall eye health.

It’s important to always use gentle, feathery strokes when massaging the eye area, and to avoid pulling or tugging at the skin. Ensure your hands are clean before beginning, and use a light eye cream or serum to facilitate the massage. For best results, perform these exercises daily, and combine them with a healthy skincare routine that includes sun protection.

Aim for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute per exercise, and repeat each exercise 3-5 times. Consistency is key, so try to incorporate these massages into your daily routine. You can perform them at any time of day, but many people find it relaxing to do so in the morning or evening as part of their skincare routine.

If performed correctly and gently, eye massage exercises are generally safe. However, it’s important to listen to your body and discontinue if you experience any discomfort or irritation. Avoid massaging the eyes if you have any eye infections or injuries, and always remove eye makeup beforehand to prevent irritation.
