“Newly Divorced Female Boss Calls Me to Her House at Midnight, Leaving Me Shocked Upon Entering the Living Room”

“Newly Divorced Female Boss Calls Me to Her House at Midnight, Leaving Me Shocked Upon Entering the Living Room”

“I’m sorry…”

But those words couldn’t save our marriage, and we divorced. In my anger, I shared everything with both families. Soon, the entire town knew about my ex-wife’s affair. The other man left her too.

Six months later, she called, crying, saying she was judged everywhere she went. I hung up, but that night, I couldn’t sleep. For the first time, I realized that revenge didn’t bring peace. From then on, I decided to change, to live positively, and to help others more.

At work, I helped anyone who asked. Buying coffee, picking up packages, fixing computers, carrying things, or giving colleagues a ride—I never refused. Someone joked:

“You’re too kind; people will take advantage of you.”

I just smiled. At least, helping others lightened my heart. Among those I often interacted with was my manager, Ms. Vân. She was beautiful, talented, a few years older, sharp at work but deeply emotional. She had also divorced, about six months after me.

One evening, around 10 PM, Ms. Vân called, her voice trembling:

“Can you come over? I’m scared…”

I rushed over without asking questions. What I saw froze me. The TV was upside down, its screen shattered. Glass from the window was scattered everywhere. Furniture was overturned. Ms. Vân sat in the corner, her face red and swollen, her hair disheveled. Seeing me, she clung to me tightly.

“I can’t take it anymore…”

I stood there, stunned, letting her cry on my shoulder. After nearly an hour, she calmed down and explained. Her ex-husband, drunk, had used his old key to break in. He cursed, smashed things, and slapped her before leaving.

I clenched my fists as she spoke. If I’d arrived a few minutes earlier, I might not have stayed calm. We cleaned up until 2 AM. As I was leaving, she whispered:

“Don’t go… I’m afraid he’ll come back.”

Seeing her still trembling, I couldn’t refuse. The next morning, I took her to the police and had all the locks changed.

In the following days, I often checked on her. Sometimes I brought fruit, other times we just shared a coffee. Two broken souls, we found ourselves talking more and more. One day, she asked:

“If I wanted a new family… would you be brave enough to join me?”

I was stunned. I thought I’d never love again, but her hopeful eyes made me realize I’d already fallen.

We married less than a month later. I thought fate had finally smiled on me, but I was wrong.

Days after the news spread, rumors exploded at work. Some said I married her for money and status; others accused me of being the reason for her divorce. The gossip spread so fast that even clients hinted:

“Heard you’re quite the catch, marrying your boss.”

Each workday felt like torture. The judgmental stares, the whispers, the sarcastic remarks—it suffocated me.

One day, I overheard a colleague in the break room:

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. She divorced two months ago and remarried? Who’d believe there was no affair?”

I froze outside the door, wanting to explain but walking away instead. That night, my wife looked at me and said:

“Maybe we should divorce… I don’t want you to suffer because of me.”

Her words crushed me. I held her tightly:

“I’ve lost one marriage to the wrong person. This time, no matter the misunderstandings, I won’t let you go.”

To this day, the rumors haven’t stopped. Sometimes I want to tell everyone we only got together when both were single. But I realize, those who want to believe don’t need explanations, and those who doubt won’t listen anyway.

What hurts most isn’t the gossip, but seeing the woman I love, after a tearful marriage, bow her head again for something she never did.
