Pre-workout Skin Care
– Makeup Removal
Cleansing and thoroughly washing your face helps to keep the pores on your skin clear, allowing sweat glands to function better, and the skin will be able to easily eliminate toxins.
Usually, when exercising, sweat and sebum are produced in large amounts, combined with makeup, dirt, and toxins… will create conditions for bacteria to thrive. The skin will be prone to acne, dullness, and premature aging.
– Apply Sunscreen
If you’re exercising outdoors or in a gym with sunlight, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30.
Note that you should use a water-resistant sunscreen that won’t wash off when in contact with water (sweat). This type of sunscreen usually contains special ingredients that help the sunscreen adhere to the skin. Apply it to your face, ears, neck, chest, and back of the neck and do not apply too thick of a layer.
After Workout
– Take a Shower
Sweating after exercising creates a favorable environment for bacteria to grow. Therefore, it’s recommended to take a shower to remove sweat, oil, and accumulated bacteria. Showering after every workout helps reduce the risk of skin diseases, prevent pore blockage…
– Cleanse Your Face
If you don’t have time to shower, take the time to clean your face after exercising. If you’re in a hurry, you can wipe your face clean with a soft cloth. In the case of prone to acne, applying salicylic acid to the face can also help prevent pore blockage.
– Apply Tinted Sunscreen
Usually, sunscreen is recommended to be reapplied every 2 hours to ensure the effectiveness of protecting the skin from UV rays. Moreover, after exercising, the sunscreen applied beforehand may be washed off.
Therefore, after working out, apply a tinted sunscreen that not only protects against ultraviolet rays but also acts as a foundation to even out the skin tone. Many studies have shown that tinted sunscreen can protect the skin from the harmful effects of indoor light.
– Cool Down Your Skin
Similar to protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays from sunlight, protecting the skin from heat energy is equally important, especially for those who exercise in hot environments, such as hot yoga.
You can cool down your skin after exercising by rinsing your face with cool water or applying a cooling face mask at home.
- Take a shower to wash away sweat, oil, and bacteria that may have accumulated during your workout. This helps reduce the risk of skin diseases and prevents pore blockage.
- If you don’t have time for a shower, at least cleanse your face. If you’re short on time, use a soft cloth to wipe your face, and consider using salicylic acid to prevent pore blockage if you’re acne-prone.
