The Beauty Benefits of Flaxseed
Flaxseeds are widely known for their rich content of omega-3 fatty acids and folic acid. Ground flaxseeds or flaxseed gel is commonly used as a skin and overall hair health treatment. Flaxseed gel has healing properties that help to heal the skin and also helps to combat common skin issues, effective for dry skin as it has great moisturizing properties.
In addition, flax gel also brings a radiant glow to your complexion, leaving your skin looking super healthy and refreshed. It works wonders for your hair and helps to promote hair growth as well. Flaxseeds also have great antibacterial properties for treating dandruff and is also said to have positive effects on hair loss.
What You’ll Need:
A handful of whole flaxseeds
2-3 cups of water
A few drops of an essential oil of your choice
Instructions
– Place a pan on low heat and add the flaxseeds.
– Add water and simmer until the water becomes slightly sticky and stringy. If you feel it’s overcooked and the water has reduced considerably, just add a little water and repeat the process.
– Use a wide holed strainer to strain the gel and your flaxseed gel is ready.
You can add a few drops of lavender essential oil or rose essential oil. If you suffer from acne or dandruff, you can add tea tree essential oil.
Apply the flaxseed gel directly to massage your face and you can also use it to massage your body before a bath. For an added freshness, add a few drops of lavender essential oil.
If you have acne-prone skin, add a little cinnamon powder to the flaxseed gel and apply it on your acne spots with a Q-tip. For blackheads, you can apply a generous amount of this flaxseed gel on your face and steam for 5-10 minutes. Wipe it off and use a blackhead remover.
For dandruff, add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the flaxseed gel and massage this gel onto your scalp and hair. Wash your hair with a shampoo after an hour.
If your hair is heat-damaged or is very rough and lacks luster, you can directly apply a generous amount of flaxseed gel on your scalp and hair and wrap it with a hot towel for 30 minutes.
