The ancestral altar should only be dedicated to the worship of deities, the earth god, the kitchen god, and the immediate paternal and maternal ancestors. When honoring both sides of the family, the homeowner should follow the principle of “male left, female right,” placing the paternal ancestors on the left and the maternal ancestors on the right.
