I thought the summer electricity bill was the highest record of the year. In fact, in the cold winter, the electricity bill is not much different from the large electric appliances. Let’s list the 5 most power-consuming devices in the winter that almost every household uses.

1. Water heater

The water heater is considered an essential appliance for every family. Just turn on the heater, wait a few minutes and you will have hot water to use, very convenient, especially in the winter. However, the water heater is a device that consumes a lot of electricity in the house. According to EVN’s statistics, most households use a 20-liter water heater, enough for 2-4 people to use daily.

Estimates show that for households with the habit of only turning on the heater before use, the average usage time is about 1 hour/day, with a consumption rate of about 70-80 kWh/month. For households that keep their heaters on continuously and use a lot, the consumption rate can be up to 230-340 kWh/month.

2. Various types of heaters

Nowadays, there are many types of heaters on the market, including ceramic heaters, oil heaters, infrared heaters, etc., and each type has different specifications and advantages and disadvantages. However, they all have the common function of radiating heat, helping to warm the space inside the house in cold weather. This is one of the most power-consuming devices in the winter. But because of its utility, many people still use this device in the winter.

If you want to buy a heater, you should choose models with energy-saving ECO mode, choose the specifications of the machine that are suitable for the room size, choose heaters with high power consumption. For example, the standard power consumption of a heater used in a room is about 400 – 800W. To save energy by heating the room faster, you can choose a heater with slightly higher power consumption, around 800 – 1200W.

Especially, when using the heater, you should not turn it on and off continuously, nor set the temperature to the maximum to avoid wasting too much energy and reduce the lifespan of the device.

3. Air conditioner

Two-way air conditioners are devices that many households use nowadays. Despite being very convenient, turning on the air conditioner in the winter consumes a large amount of electricity. When using the air conditioner for heating, the power consumption is even more than 2-3 times higher than when cooling.

Compared to other heating appliances, using the air conditioner in the winter also consumes much more electricity. It is worth mentioning that if the temperature drops too low, the heating effect of the air conditioner is not very good.

4. Bathroom heater lights

Many people install bathroom heater lights for convenient bathing in the winter. When bathing, the body temperature can drop suddenly, and installing heater lights in the bathroom can help you feel less cold and limit the risk of flu and strokes when bathing.

Bathroom heater lights are usually designed to be hung on the wall or ceiling. The power consumption of this device is no less than that of water heaters.

5. Hot water dispenser

Hot water dispensers are widely used by many families in Vietnam to provide hot water daily, especially in the winter. The capacity of the dispenser is usually from 4-6 liters, continuously boiling and maintaining the water after 6 hours or according to the lowest temperature set by the manufacturer. This is also the reason why hot water dispensers consume electricity.

The power of the dispenser is about 700 – 1,200 W depending on the manufacturer and capacity. If plugged in continuously and used with about 6-8 liters of hot water per day, the dispenser can consume 40-100 kWh per month.
