This flower comes in various colors such as white, yellow, and pink. It contains scopolamine, a substance that has a strong effect on the central nervous system. When smelling this flower, people can enter an unconscious state, unable to control their behavior and speaking nonsensically. In high doses, scopolamine can cause respiratory arrest and death. In low doses, it causes strong hallucinations and sedation, leaving the person poisoned in a hypnotic state.
Therefore, although this flower looks beautiful, it should not be planted as decoration to avoid poisoning adults, children, pets, and causing intoxication.
Belladonna Lily
The Belladonna Lily is a flower with a unique beauty. It is considered the symbol of the Japanese autumn. In Japanese, the Belladonna Lily is called “higanbana.” This flower grows in clusters and can bloom in a beautiful flower bed. In Japanese, “higan” means the other world, used to refer to the world of the deceased. For the Japanese, O-higan is a day to remember and visit the ancestors’ graves.
