The Effect of Hanging a Water Bag near Windows
Summer is a time of intense heat, which can lead to discomfort for humans. In addition, it is also a favorable season for insects to emerge, causing many annoyances in our lives. In particular, flies are especially prevalent during the summer months. They are a rapidly reproducing species that carry a variety of bacteria, which can spread pathogens to humans.
Killing flies can lead to the spread of viruses, bacteria, fungal cells, worm eggs, etc., from their bodies into the surrounding environment. Moreover, flies are quite fast, making it difficult to eliminate them by swatting.
To prevent flies from entering your home, you can try an alternative method. The simplest solution is to hang a water-filled bag in front of windows, doorways, or other areas where sunlight can penetrate. It is important to use a thick, transparent plastic bag so that the sunlight can pass through it and the bag does not tear when hung up. In addition to water, you can also add 4-5 coins to the bag. Doing so will deter flies from entering your home.
Why does hanging a water bag near doors keep flies away?
The reason is that flies have a 360-degree field of vision. They continuously change their viewing angle and can see from multiple directions while standing in a single location.
As light passes through the water bag, it undergoes refraction. In this process, light does not travel in a straight line but instead bends. This causes the fly to lose its orientation, become disoriented, and avoid areas where water bags are present.
Additional Fly Repellents
– Creating a Fly Trap Using Ripe Bananas and Apple Cider Vinegar
Peel a banana and cut it into small pieces. Place the banana pieces in a bowl and cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Poke several small holes in the plastic wrap (large enough for flies to enter) to allow the scent of the ripe banana to escape, attracting flies. Flies will be drawn to the smell of the banana and enter the bowl through the small holes. However, they will have difficulty escaping.
Ripe bananas can be substituted with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke several small holes in the wrap to allow flies to enter.
– Using Orange or Lemon Peels
Fresh orange or lemon peels are effective insect repellents. The peels of these fruits contain a high concentration of natural oils, which emit a distinctive odor. While these scents are relaxing to humans, they create confusion and disorientation for insects. Therefore, placing orange or lemon peels in areas where flies tend to gather can help to repel them.
