Electronic devices deteriorate over time. However, they can last a long time if taken care of properly. Some users have devices that last for years while others experience malfunctions early on. There are habits that may seem harmless but actually have a significant impact. In order to prevent the deterioration of your phone, laptop, or other electronic devices, remember to avoid the following habits:
Using different types of chargers
Don’t just use any charger. It is best to use your own charger for your own device. A compatible charger does not necessarily mean it is compatible with your phone. The special chip inside the device is responsible for many functions and can be damaged by the wrong charging cable. This causes phones and laptops to freeze and malfunction quickly. So remember to only use someone else’s charger in emergency situations, and don’t just use any charger.
Using devices under direct sunlight for too long
Electronic devices do not tolerate high temperatures. So if you often use your phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic devices under direct sunlight or in places with high temperatures like near a stove, near a heater for too long, they can heat up quickly, which reduces durability and damages internal components. In addition, direct exposure to sunlight on devices like laptops for extended periods of time can affect display colors, as well as cause the screen coating to peel off and cause damage.
Never turning off the devices
Many of us have a habit of keeping our laptops running continuously or often not turning them off completely but putting them to sleep mode only. This is not good because computers, like us, need to have a complete rest. Phones also need to be completely turned off to rest and delete unnecessary information. So remember that all devices need to be completely turned off for a certain period of time.
Using cheap accessories
Cheap accessories may help you save money when buying, but they end up costing you more by making your devices break down faster. Moreover, cheap accessories also quickly become faulty and require repurchasing. So instead of buying knock-off or cheap accessories, buy genuine ones, especially if you use expensive phones or laptops. Nowadays, manufacturers usually create accessories that are compatible with their products or authorize third parties based on the specified standards. If you choose a charger without a clear origin, the electrical source from them may be higher or lower than the standard voltage, which can harm the device’s battery or, even worse, pose risks of explosion. Additionally, devices break down faster, which means you ultimately spend more.
Not cleaning the devices regularly
There is a lot of dust around us and it can penetrate electronic devices, especially small gaps. Dust can cause severe damage to computers, TV screens, and other expensive electronic devices, so you should diligently clean your devices.
You can use compressed air cans to clean hard-to-reach cracks or tight areas inside the devices. For easier-to-clean parts, you can use a soft cloth without lint instead of a paper towel.
You can also take your devices to a professional cleaning service instead of trying to dismantle them if you do not have the necessary tools and skills.
Using too many external accessories
Using thick phone cases, applying multiple stickers to laptops, or randomly sticking things on TVs and refrigerators can cause the devices to heat up faster. So be mindful when using additional accessories to modify your devices.
Not paying attention to water
You often use devices in the bathroom with steam, place them near hot evaporating tea, or hold devices while being near a steaming cup of water… These unintentionally make the devices moist. You don’t pay attention to drying your hands when using electronic devices. These behaviors make devices damp and more prone to damage.
