In Vietnamese spiritual culture, many people believe that they can receive blessings and good fortune by going to temples and shrines. Most business people will make offerings to Buddha and holy spirits in order to seek prosperity. And in families, they will pray to their ancestors for protection.

So, does being closer to religious sites such as temples and shrines mean more protection?

Is it lucky or unlucky?

In the past, religious sites such as temples and shrines were often located far away from residential areas, such as in the middle of fields or on mountains. However, due to population growth and changes in business practices, many houses are now being built near temples and shrines.

In folk culture, shrines and temples are built to ward off evil spirits. They are not built on auspicious land, but rather on troubled land, in order to dispel demons and spirits. Therefore, the areas surrounding temples and shrines often have heavy negative energy and are not a positive environment for living.

Those who have not cultivated their spiritual self are more susceptible to being influenced and disturbed by such forces.

Therefore, in reality, temples and shrines are not suitable places for people to live or conduct noisy business activities.

Temples and shrines are places for spiritual practitioners or those who have negative energy. The activities of worship and prayer can accumulate more negative energy in the surrounding area.

Therefore, from a feng shui perspective, building houses or businesses in these areas does not create a favorable environment, except for businesses related to religious activities and certain types of food during religious festivals.

Those who follow a spiritual path and have a connection with Buddhism, and those who do not conduct religious activities may be suitable for living in these areas. However, for those who engage in external business activities, do not believe in spirituality, and have a lifestyle that contradicts religious beliefs, living in these areas in the long term may bring about unfortunate circumstances.

In terms of health and mental well-being, if the area is quiet and contains a lot of negative energy, people may feel tired and lack positive energy, leading to various illnesses. On the other hand, if the area around temples and shrines is crowded with incense and religious followers, it can become noisy and lacking tranquility, which is also not beneficial for living.

Therefore, businesses near temples and shrines are only suitable for those who sell products related to religious activities. If the religious site is famous and attracts many visitors, additional food businesses may be viable. However, for companies operating in other fields or residential homes near these areas, it can often bring about more exhaustion.

How to create good fortune?

In modern times, there have been changes compared to before, and temples and shrines are often mixed within residential areas. Therefore, if you own land nearby, or if you are renting, you can consider applying some feng shui tips to bring positive energy into your life and business activities:

Build high fences or plant large trees around the area to prevent negative energy from entering your home. Suitable plants for this purpose include bougainvillea, bamboo, and dragon fruit.

Hang a Bagua mirror in front of your main entrance to preserve positive energy for your family.

You can also hang wind chimes at the lower corner of your roof to ward off negative energies.

Create a positive living and working environment with natural or artificial light. Adequate lighting in living and working spaces is necessary to create positive energy and dispel negative energy.

When living or working near temples and shrines, regardless of your beliefs, it is important to avoid inappropriate words, not litter near religious sites, and refrain from actions or statements that may disrespect or offend others.
