Buffa di Perrero is nestled in the majestic Dolomites of Italy, not only a symbol of solitude but also a testament to history. It is named after Alpine soldier, Major Carlo Buffa di Perrero, a hero with a passion for mountains.

The house was built during World War I, surviving through time, standing tall at nearly 3000 meters above sea level, facing steep and rugged cliffs.

The Buffa di Perrero house is built on the edge of a mountain in a virtually inaccessible location. However, this unusual location has attracted mountaineers and adventurous explorers for many years. As of now, the house is over 100 years old.

In an age when building at such high mountain peaks is almost unthinkable, Buffa di Perrero evokes both curiosity and admiration. Due to the challenging accessibility, no solution has been devised to transport this magnificent structure.

Currently, to reach Buffa di Perrero, adventurers must navigate the Via Ferrata, a route filled with iron steps and cables. Only those with strength and unwavering determination can complete this arduous journey. Although the house is no longer considered an ideal resting place today, courageous visitors can still behold the unforgettable grandeur of the Dolomites.

The Italian Alpine Club (CAI – Club Alpino Italiano, organizing mountaineering events, managing mountain cabins, maintaining trails, and actively protecting the environment) has built a similar and modern resting place near Forcella Marmarole pass, accommodating up to 12 people. This place has become a new haven for adventure enthusiasts seeking tranquility and a connection with the pristine, majestic beauty of nature.

Buffa di Perrero transcends the notion of a simple house. It represents determination, creativity, and the human desire to conquer challenges. It is also a vibrant museum of the past, a tribute to fallen warriors, and a celebration of brave souls embarking on perilous yet captivating and alluring journeys.

Buffa di Perrero can be described as a unique and remarkable masterpiece. It is an emblem of human ingenuity and exceptional capabilities in creating the unimaginable.
