Why Does the Money Tree Plant Thrive on Beer?

The Money Tree is one of the easiest plants to grow and requires minimal maintenance. When potting a Money Tree, opt for a larger container as the plant will develop a substantial trunk and robust root system.

For the soil, choose a well-aerated, peaty mix with good drainage. To provide adequate nutrition, you can blend the soil with mulch, husks, or ready-made microbial soil amendments.

The Money Tree is a low-maintenance plant.

Money Trees are drought-tolerant, so infrequent watering is sufficient. Water your plant once or twice a week using a spray bottle. Although it thrives in sunlight, it can also grow well in low-light conditions or in an air-conditioned room.

When watering, you can mist the leaves and stem to maintain moisture, or water a small amount at the base. Money Trees also respond well to beer; using beer as a fertilizer will result in lush, shiny leaves. However, do not pour beer directly onto the roots. Instead, let the beer sit out to evaporate the alcohol, then dilute it with water at a ratio of 1:100. Use this mixture to water your plant, and you will notice shinier leaves after a few applications. To promote photosynthesis and maintain the shiny appearance, regularly clean the leaves with a damp cloth, gently wiping the surfaces of the leaves, stem, and pot.

Despite its resilience, regularly inspect your Money Tree for pest infestations. Whiteflies and red spider mites are common pests that can damage the leaves. If you spot an infestation on the underside of the leaves, spray the affected leaves with a mild soap solution and wipe clean with a cloth dampened in salty water. If pests appear on the entire plant, you may need to use insecticides to eradicate them.
