A group of hikers found themselves in a precarious situation as they got stuck on Mount Yan Dang in eastern China during the Labor Day holiday.

Mount Yan Dang has gone viral on Chinese social media platforms over the past week, with images spreading widely of hikers stuck on a cliff for over an hour. It was not only a terrifying scene but also a stark warning about the overcrowding and safety issues at this popular destination.

One netizen expressed their shock at the incident: “This is horrifying! As someone afraid of heights, I would have been petrified up there!”

“You couldn’t pay me to do that,” commented another netizen.

While many online comments expressed concerns about the safety of the hikers in the event of a fall, it is important to note that all hikers were equipped with safety gear, including helmets, harnesses, and other necessary equipment.

The Wenzhou Dingcheng Sports Development Company, which manages the ferrata route, issued a statement acknowledging the cause of the incident: “Due to a miscalculation in estimating visitor numbers and a lack of an effective traffic control system, such as a pre-booking system, coupled with poor on-site management, this resulted in congestion and hikers becoming stuck on the mountain.”

The company has temporarily halted ticket sales while they address the situation and plan to implement a traffic control system to ensure the safety of future visitors.
