This morning, a long queue formed at the Vietnam Museum of Military History as people waited to enter the parking lot. The parking fee is the only charge visitors have to pay, with a rate of 5,000 VND per motorbike.
From the parking lot, visitors can enter the museum through a side entrance.
The museum attracts a diverse range of visitors, including groups of veterans, students on field trips, and young people living and studying in Hanoi. Many shared with Hoa Hoc Tro that they were overwhelmed by the grand scale of the museum.
Dao Thu Nhai, a student at Phenikaa University, said, “I saw a recommendation on TikTok about the museum’s opening, so I decided to come. I was impressed by the vast space, numerous models, and artifacts. The exterior architecture is also very modern.”
Her companion, Tram Anh, added, “Since it just opened, I hope the museum will continue to improve and become even better.”
The museum displays 150,000 artifacts across six themes that follow the timeline of Vietnamese history, from the country’s founding to the present. Each room has a unique layout, and every artifact is labeled with a nameplate and a QR code for visitors to access detailed information.
Numerous screens, 3D maps, and other visual aids are also strategically placed to provide a more immersive experience. Depending on the exhibition area and theme, visitors can explore reconstructed models of the Hoang Cam kitchen, bunkers, and scenes from Hanoi in 1946, all of which are incredibly realistic and impressive.
Currently, all exhibits and display areas are located on the first floor, with a few empty spaces and non-functional screens. The second floor is still under construction, with stairs and elevators blocked off. However, the vast space of the first floor alone can keep visitors engaged for nearly two hours as they explore and admire the exhibits.
As it is a new museum, the Vietnam Museum of Military History may need more staff to manage the flow of visitors. In some reconstructed areas with dioramas, a few guests were seen touching or handling the objects. To prevent damage, the museum might consider implementing a more visible signage system or assigning staff to monitor and gently remind visitors.
The Vietnam Museum of Military History will offer free admission until the end of December 2024.
