European tourists chose Phu Quoc City in Kien Giang Province as their holiday destination to celebrate the end of 2024. This influx of international visitors showcases the region’s growing appeal.

Kien Giang’s tourism sector witnessed impressive growth in 2024, attracting over 9.8 million visitors, including nearly 980,000 international tourists. This significant increase in visitor numbers contributed to a total tourism revenue of over VND 25,100 billion (approximately USD 1 billion), reflecting a 43.8% surge compared to the previous year.

According to Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of Kien Giang Province’s Department of Tourism, the province’s tourism development in 2024 was comprehensive and successful. This success can be attributed to several factors, including enhanced investment promotion and tourism development cooperation with other provinces and cities, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, Kien Giang focused on infrastructure development and diversifying its tourism products. The operation of large-scale projects has played a pivotal role in boosting the local tourism industry.

Mr. Du To Tuan, Secretary-General of Kien Giang Tourism Association, highlighted the impact of the policy that grants a 30-day visa exemption for all international visitors to Phu Quoc City. This policy has been a significant driver in attracting a growing number of international tourists to the island, known for its pristine beauty and high-quality tourism services.

Kien Giang, especially Phu Quoc City, has successfully attracted investments from leading Vietnamese and international tourism groups, such as Vingroup, Sun Group, and CEO Group. These investments have transformed the city’s landscape and elevated the quality of its services, establishing Phu Quoc as an appealing global destination.

Kien Giang offers a range of high-end accommodation options, providing visitors with luxurious and comfortable stays.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong, former Vice Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, acknowledged Kien Giang’s advantageous geographical location and its vast tourism potential, including its beautiful beaches and unique ecosystems. However, he also noted that aside from Phu Quoc City, the province’s other regions have not yet fully realized their tourism potential.

In 2027, Phu Quoc City will host the APEC event, a significant milestone that will put the city on the global stage. This event will create a tourism boom, attracting international visitors and positioning Phu Quoc as a desirable destination for international conferences and events. The local tourism industry, including hotels and transportation services, stands to benefit immensely from this exposure.

Dinh Cau, a famous landmark in Phu Quoc, is one of the many attractions that draw visitors to the island.

The APEC 2027 Phu Quoc event will have a profound impact on the city’s tourism landscape, establishing it as a prominent destination for international events and conferences. This exposure will not only benefit the local tourism industry but also contribute to the city’s overall development, leaving a lasting legacy.
