Kindness, compassion
Our ancestors used to say: Blessings come from the mother. A righteous, compassionate, and kind mother who does good deeds and helps others will bring endless blessings to her children, family, and descendants.
That’s why there is a saying: “A virtuous woman will bring prosperity for three generations” (A good woman will bring prosperity to her family for three generations).
Next to a loving and gentle mother, a child’s emotions become much richer. Children learn from their mothers to be kind, warm, and virtuous.
Children are born kind-hearted, innocent like a white sheet of paper. The education and guidance that they receive from the person closest to them, their mother, determine their character in the future. If a mother teaches her child love and compassion, the child will keep the goodness in their heart. When they grow up, they will become good people, loved, trusted, and assisted by many. Virtuous mothers will receive blessings, and their children and grandchildren will enjoy these blessings.
Diligence and wise spending
Most mothers are hardworking, compassionate, and diligent, even if they used to be lazy women. Once they get married and have children, they become completely different people.
They become diligent and hardworking, turning their love for their children into specific actions. They always make an effort and work hard. This is probably the nature of human beings, a great characteristic of a mother.
In a family, the sacrifice, hard work, and frugality of a wife and mother are highly regarded. The mother is the one who does almost everything in the household, from cooking, laundry, washing dishes, to cleaning the house. The mother also decides the income and expenses, from buying food, to tuition fees and books for the children, always budgeting wisely.
Therefore, a hardworking mother who takes care of the household and knows how to spend wisely will bring more happiness and warmth to the family. This is also a good virtue that a mother should teach her children so that they can become independent in life. Children will look up to their mother as a role model to follow.
Intellect
There is a proverb that says: “Obey your teacher outside, obey your mother at home.” This saying is suitable for a story from ancient China: “The three moves of Mạnh Mâu” (Mạnh Mâu moved houses three times). This famous story talks about the intelligence of a mother who teaches her child based on strict rituals but adapts to the realities of life.
Chương Thị, the mother of the famous philosopher Mạnh Tử, single-handedly supported and educated her fatherless son since he was young. In order to provide her son with the best educational environment, she moved houses three times.
The first house they moved into was near a cemetery. She noticed that her son often sneaked out to play there, and she realized that it was not a good environment. So she moved the house closer to the market.
However, when she heard Mạnh Tử imitating the harsh and sarcastic tone, she decided to move again.
Mạnh Mâu moved the house to be next to the school, and she noticed that Mạnh Tử followed the ritual rules, studied hard. Only then did she feel reassured and say, “This is where we should live.” This truly shows the intellectual way that a mother teaches her child.
