Gaze at Mother
Mothers will notice that when the baby suckles on the mother’s breast, the baby tends to gaze intently into the mother’s eyes; this is the baby’s way of expressing love for the mother from a very early age. By looking uninterrupted at the mother, the baby is trying to understand and explore the mother. Staring at the mother is also one of the signs that the mother is attracting the baby, and the mother is extremely special to the baby.
Experts share that newborns cannot see objects that are too far away, their eyes are limited to the distance with the mother’s face when the baby is breastfeeding. Therefore, the baby will always try to turn back towards the mother’s face and gaze intently at the main features of the mother’s face such as the eyes, nose, and mouth; then the baby will try to mimic the mother’s facial expressions. So if the mother sees the baby staring intently at her face, she should smile and talk to the baby to make the baby feel closer.
Listen to Mother’s Voice
Do you know that the baby can hear sounds from 20 weeks of pregnancy? At that time, every time the baby hears the mother’s voice, the baby’s heart rate will slow down because the baby is trying to listen to the mother speak. Even though the baby is still in the womb, the mother’s voice can make the baby feel comfortable.
That’s why babies always turn back to familiar voices, like when the mother or father speaks. Because the baby records the voices of the mother and father the most since the baby is still a fetus. The baby will remember this voice and will immediately recognize it when heard. That is also why mothers should not worry too much about whether the baby will be more attached to the mother, father, or grandmother; because no voice can replace the mother’s voice in the baby’s heart!
Open Mouth when Placed on Mother’s Chest
Some studies have shown that newborns can recognize their mother just by smell. In a study of newborns, researchers confirmed that the baby moves very differently when smelling the sweet scent of mother’s milk. The baby can find the mother’s breast on their own right after birth. When the mother holds the baby in her arms, the baby instinctively snuggles into the mother’s chest because the baby recognizes it as “the scent of their mother”.
Smile at Mother
Infants from 6 to 12 weeks of age can smile when they see their mother, their smile represents the phrase “I love you, Mom”. Doctors call this a baby’s reaction when it wants the mother to respond with love. In other words, the baby is trying to communicate with the mother through a smile. The baby wants to receive a smile from the mother, a hug, a chat, or simply be close to the baby.
Show Joy when Mother Passes By
When the baby is six months old, the baby can distinguish very well who is around them. The baby will feel most familiar and closest to the mother or father, and consider them as the most beloved persons. The baby’s expression of love will be happiness, jumping up and down, and excitement when the mother or father comes into sight.
Because children can distinguish who is closest to them, parents should spend more quality time with their children. The baby’s excitement when seeing the parents, siblings… shows that the baby loves you and considers you as the most important people.
