Vinegar
Just a small amount of vinegar can help neutralize the salty taste of a dish. When adding vinegar, do it gradually and taste as you go until it reaches the desired balance. Avoid adding too much vinegar, as it can overpower the flavors and make the dish less enjoyable.
Egg Whites
If a soup or broth is too salty, you can easily fix it by adding egg whites. Simply crack an egg and add the egg white to the soup, then bring it to a boil again. The albumin in the egg white will absorb the excess salt, resulting in a milder and more delicious soup. Afterward, you can use a spoon to remove the cooked egg white.
Additionally, if you’re making a bone soup or mixed vegetable soup, you can remove the vegetables and bones, boil the egg whites for 15-20 minutes until they float to the surface, then scoop out the egg whites. Afterward, you can add the vegetables and bones back and continue cooking until done.
Potatoes
One of the ways to reduce the saltiness of a soup is to add peeled and sliced potatoes. The potatoes will absorb some of the excess salt, resulting in a less salty soup. Moreover, adding potatoes to the dish will enhance its richness and make it more appetizing. Additionally, potatoes can make the dish more nutritious and flavorful.
Sugar
Another effective way to reduce the saltiness is to add a little sugar to the soup, stew, or braised dish. Sugar will help balance the salty taste and make the dish more flavorful and delicious.
Boiling Water
If none of the above methods work and the soup is still too salty (due to excessive salt or spices), you can add more boiling water. However, this may dilute the flavors of the dish. Nevertheless, it will make the soup more enjoyable and delicious.
