Let’s explore these 3 stories to understand more about the law of karma:
1. Mother harms the maid, daughter is born without ears and nose
In the Trinh Quan period of the Tang Dynasty, the wife of Boc Duong Pham Luc was jealous of a servant girl whom Boc Duong Pham Luc had previously liked. One day, she used a knife to cut off the maid’s ears and nose, but Boc Duong Pham Luc couldn’t stop her in time.
Not long after, the wife of Boc Duong Pham Luc became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. To everyone’s surprise, the daughter was born without ears and nose, which made Boc Duong Pham Luc and his wife very sad.
When the daughter grew up, she accidentally saw the maid who had her ears and nose cut off, and asked her why she became like this. The maid told her about the past.
After hearing this, Boc Duong Pham Luc’s daughter realized that her mother’s crime had been punished and appeared on her own body. She was extremely distressed, and from then on, she always hated her mother. Boc Duong Pham Luc’s wife was also very ashamed, but it was too late for her to repent.
2. District officer embezzles, son is hunted down and dies
In the Tang Dynasty, Doanh Chau was a district officer but extremely greedy.
One day, Ly Chinh, a citizen in the district, passed away. Doanh Chau collected money from the people there to build a statue supposedly to commemorate Ly Chinh, a person who had done good for the villagers. But when everyone had paid enough money, Doanh Chau used it for his own purposes, saying that there was another important matter that required urgent funding.
The villagers were afraid and dared not say anything, so the matter passed until one day Doanh Chau’s only son went hunting in the forest, and his horse suddenly got scared and ran away, endangering his life. While running, Doanh Chau’s son was hit by a thorny branch and died instantly.
When the villagers learned of the news, they were not sad but secretly happy, saying: “The son of the district officer has turned into a wild rabbit!”
3. Prison director’s daughter turned into a courtesan
In the Qing Dynasty, there was a prison director in the Tay An district. His life was always smooth sailing until he passed away.
After his death, his three daughters quickly became courtesans. The reason why there was no immediate retribution on his own body was because of the virtue that he had accumulated in his previous life, which helped his current life to be peaceful. But the sins he committed in this life had to be paid for, so the retribution fell upon his daughters.
All of his daughters were successively harmed and turned into courtesans, living a life full of shame.
People who do not believe in the law of karma, who do not believe in the Buddha, think that they can do evil deeds but never think about the consequences. Many people even argue, why does one person do something bad and still look beautiful, have excess money, be filthy rich. The karmic retribution often comes late, but it is never absent.
