1Trim the Ends

Step 1 Cut the Ends: Using your knife, trim off both ends of the grapefruit as close to the flesh as possible. Stop when you start to see the fruit inside.

Step 2 Cut in Half: Cut the grapefruit in half through the middle. You should be able to see the boundary between the flesh and the peel.

Step 3 Peel: Take one half of the grapefruit and, following the boundary between the segments, cut a small slit in the peel. Then, simply pull back the peel.

Note: This method works well for most types of grapefruits, such as green-skinned, yellow-skinned with red flesh, and pink grapefruits. However, it is not recommended for the “Diën” variety, which is juicier.

Step 1 Peel: Using your knife, cut off the stem and divide the peel into six equal parts by making shallow cuts. Then, use your hands to peel off the thick outer layer, following the cuts you’ve made. Be careful not to cut into the fruit.

Step 3 Enjoy: Now, you can easily separate the segments. However, to fully enjoy them, you’ll need to peel off the thin membrane surrounding each juicy segment. A handy tip is to start peeling from the belly and work your way to the back, keeping the segment intact.
