Experts have compiled a list of unhealthy eating habits that you should consider changing before it’s too late:

1. The habit of using mobile phones while eating

Mobile phones have become a necessity for most people. Not looking at your phone for a day can make you feel anxious and incomplete.

However, using your phone during mealtimes can be distracting, affecting your appetite and inhibiting digestion. Over time, it may weaken your digestive system’s function.

Constantly staring at your phone while eating may also lead to overeating as it prolongs mealtime, making you consume more than you realize.

2. The habit of preferring to eat rice with soup

Some people like to pour soup over their rice as they find it too dry otherwise. Normally, when food enters the stomach, gastric acid goes to work.

However, the smooth texture of soupy rice can lead to overeating. Therefore, this habit should not be practiced frequently.

3. The habit of drinking yogurt after a meal

It is commonly believed that “drinking yogurt after a meal aids digestion” as it promotes gastric acid secretion, and the probiotics in yogurt inhibit harmful bacteria in the intestines, thus maintaining health.

However, drinking yogurt when you’re already full may contribute to weight gain over time. Yogurt bought from the market has a low probability of containing live probiotics due to transportation, storage, and sales processes, which mostly kill these beneficial bacteria.

Additionally, yogurt does not contain digestive enzymes and cannot promote intestinal peristalsis, which is necessary for food breakdown and healthy digestion.

4. The habit of smoking immediately after a meal

Smoking after a meal can be detrimental to your health. After eating, the body’s blood circulation increases, and capillaries dilate. The digestive system accelerates its work, and if harmful substances enter the body, they will be quickly absorbed.

The lungs and other tissues in the body also become more receptive to absorbing smoke and its harmful components.

5. The habit of strenuous exercise after a meal

While it is said that you shouldn’t sit for too long after eating, strenuous exercise should also be avoided. When you’re full, blood rushes to your stomach for digestion, and muscle blood supply is limited.

Intense exercise during this time can harm the digestive system. It is best to refrain from vigorous exercise for at least an hour after a meal. The ideal time to exercise is one to two hours post-meal.
