Honey is considered a common “panacea” in the daily life of Vietnamese people. It particularly has the ability to support the treatment of various respiratory and digestive issues.
During periods of weather change, such as cold weather or seasonal transitions, people with weak immune systems are prone to problems like the common cold, runny nose, cough, and sore throat. In such cases, honey becomes an essential therapeutic measure.
There are three specific times of the day to consume honey for health benefits.
– Drinking honey in the morning: Consuming honey in the morning brings many health benefits. This is the best time to enjoy the positive characteristics of honey. Honey helps cleanse the stomach and promote the detoxification process in the body. As a rich source of energy, honey helps reduce fatigue and indigestion, especially when used early in the morning. Drinking honey in the morning can also support weight loss, improve digestion, and be particularly beneficial for individuals with stomach issues.
– Drinking honey after meals: Consuming honey before and after meals also provides multiple benefits. Drinking a glass of honey water before a meal can help suppress gastric acid secretion and reduce gastric mucosal stimulation. For people with gastric ulcers, drinking honey daily can help reduce inflammation. Drinking honey after a meal enhances intestinal motility, supports the digestion process, and helps reduce the negative effects of overeating.
– Drinking honey in the evening: Drinking honey before bedtime helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote the detoxification process in the body. A cup of warm water with honey can also help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and support the treatment of acid reflux.
In addition to consuming honey, there are three suitable honey-based remedies for winter ailments.
1. Honey warms the body: Prepare 10g of dried chamomile flowers, 30ml of honey, a pot of boiling water, and a tea cup. After brewing the chamomile flowers, let them dry and store them in a glass jar for later use. Pour the chamomile flowers into a cup and rinse with warm water. Then add boiling water, cover for 3 minutes to allow the tea to steep. When drinking, add honey to the chamomile tea. Drink this chamomile honey tea before bedtime.
2. Honey for treating gastric ulcers and colitis: Prepare 60g of honey, 10g of fresh licorice, and 6g of Chinese quince. Boil the licorice and Chinese quince first, then remove the peel and seeds. Mix the licorice and Chinese quince with honey. Consume 1-3 times a day.
3. Reducing wrinkles and dry, cracked skin: Every evening before bed, wash your face with warm water, then apply honey to your face 1-2 times, leaving it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Additionally, you can use a mixture of 80mg of honey and 20mg of pork fat, creating a cream to apply to the affected areas 2-3 times a day.
Please note the following when using honey:
– Store honey in a cool and dry place, preferably at a temperature of 5-10°C, in a tightly sealed glass jar.
– It is best to consume pure and fresh honey directly or diluted in warm water, cool water, milk, fruit juice, etc. Avoid mixing honey in hot water or boiling water, as high temperatures can destroy its nutritional content, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
– Avoid mixing honey with high-alcohol content beverages, as it may cause precipitation and alteration of many organic components in honey.
