A Wedding Day Without a Homeland

Xài’s father, Mr. Phạm Văn Hoan, her mother, Mrs. Vũ Thị Xắc, and her older brother, Phạm Ngọc Khải, lived together in Kiên Giang. Despite the hardships they faced, the family never had any conflicts.

Around the year 1960, Mrs. Xắc gave birth to another child, but unfortunately, both mother and child passed away. Not long after, Mr. Hoan became the sole breadwinner, and Xài and her brother contributed to supporting the family.

In 1971, Xài decided to marry and follow her husband to America. Little did she know that the day she left her homeland would be a day of destiny, and she would later lose contact with her family.

For a while after moving to America, Xài maintained contact with her father and brother through handwritten letters. They exchanged addresses and photographs to stay connected. However, a crisis occurred when she divorced, and her ex-husband discarded all the letters containing her family’s address in Vietnam, making it impossible for her to reach out to them.

Time passed, and Xài attempted to reconnect, but her financial situation did not allow it. When she finally achieved a better life, she had no information to trace her family. All hope seemed lost until, surprisingly, a few days after sharing her story on the Tuấn Vỹ channel, good news arrived.

An Emotional Reunion

Xài’s sister-in-law was the one who responded to her plea. Upon hearing Xài’s story, she immediately recognized her and confirmed that she was indeed her long-lost sister-in-law. Seeing her sister-in-law on the screen, Xài couldn’t hold back her tears, overwhelmed with emotion at this unexpected turn of events late in her life.

After verifying the matching information and recognizing each other through old photographs, Xài exclaimed, “It’s my family.” Her sister-in-law comforted her and shared that the family had been searching for her for years without success.

Through her sister-in-law’s sharing, Xài learned that her family still lived in Kiên Giang and, due to the lack of information about her, had been out of contact for so many years. Hearing about her nephews and nieces and their well-being brought Xài great joy, and she promised to visit Vietnam to reunite with her family and pay respects to her ancestors after more than 50 years of separation.

We’ve been longing for you, and I’ve asked people who went to America for help, but there was no news. We had lost hope, but when I saw your story on the Tuấn Vỹ channel, I was sure it was you,” Xài’s sister-in-law confided.

They reminisced about old times and shared updates about their daily lives. Xài assured her family that she would return to Vietnam to visit them and pay her respects to their ancestors.
