SOOBIN HOÀNG SƠN’S FATHER IS A PEOPLE’S ARTIST, HIS MOTHER WAS ONCE FAMOUS

Soobin Hoang Son or SOOBIN, real name Nguyen Huynh Son, was born in 1992 in Hanoi. He is one of the talented “brothers” with a large number of fans, known as the “ballad prince”. While Soobin Hoang Son is a successful singer with millions of fans, his father is also a well-known artist.

Soobin Hoang Son’s father, People’s Artist Nguyen Huynh Tu, was born in 1960 in Thanh Tri, Hanoi. He graduated with a major in Piano Jazz from the Vietnam National Academy of Music after seven years of studying piano professionally from the age of 11, and then became a lecturer at the academy for three years.

After that, he joined the Thang Long Song and Dance Troupe and founded the Mua Rung band, frequently performing abroad in instrumental, ensemble, and solo performances. The group later disbanded as members emigrated or pursued their own projects. People’s Artist Nguyen Huynh Tu then composed music for stages, festivals, and films. He also worked as a music director for competitions such as Sao Mai and Hanoi’s Best Singer.

Soobin Hoang Son’s biological father is People’s Artist Huynh Tu.

Artist Huynh Tu also comes from an artistic family. He revealed that his family has had three generations of artists, with his parents both being performers. His mother, Meritorious Artist Le Thi Hao Yen, was once very famous in the Thanh Hoa cải lương troupe. During that time, everyone knew of her, and the theater would be packed whenever she performed. Thanks to his mother’s influence, Artist Huynh Tu stepped onto the stage at an early age. Even at the age of three, when he still had a lisp, he performed in plays such as “Phạm Công Cúc Hoa.”

It can be said that People’s Artist Huynh Tu has a natural talent for the arts, which Soobin Hoang Son has inherited. His father taught him to play the dan bau (monochord), and he quickly mastered it, performing everywhere. This was evident in the show “Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Chông Gai” (Brother Overcoming Thousands of Obstacles), where the singer impressed audiences by wearing the traditional Vietnamese “the and khan kep” (shirt and headscarf) and skillfully playing the dan bau.

People’s Artist Huynh Tu taught his son to play musical instruments at a young age.

In an interview, Artist Huynh Tu shared: “When SOOBIN was around five or six years old, his performance schedule was already packed. Any family with a wedding or organization with an event would invite him. Sometimes, the two of us would carry a cassette player and a dan bau, and other times we’d bring along clothes and gloves for him to perform Michael Jackson’s dances. Back then, SOOBIN was excellent at covering Michael Jackson’s dances, from the knee drop to the spin. When SOOBIN was younger, recording devices and cameras weren’t as common as they are now. I regret not being able to record any of his performances from that time.”

SOOBIN earned an income from playing the dan bau as a child, but he didn’t want to rely on his father’s fame. He pursued his passion for singing, even though his family wanted him to become a musician. This caused some conflict. However, now, People’s Artist Huynh Tu is proud that his son has walked his own path and built his own reputation. The artist once shared that since gaining fame, SOOBIN has earned a high income and supported his parents significantly.

Soobin performed with his father when he was young but later switched to singing.

Regarding his father, the “ballad prince” expressed his gratitude: “The person I want to thank the most is my father, who has given me everything he has. He instilled in me the passion for music, the craziness on stage, and the ability to sense and appreciate it… He discovered my potential at the right time and allowed me to develop from the age of three until now. It was also his wise decision to let me study light music and play the piano from the sixth grade onwards. If it weren’t for my father’s insight, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Every time I accompanied my father and saw how his artist colleagues respected him, I admired him. That’s why I idolized him. Since I was little, I’ve dreamed of standing on stage, receiving cheers from the audience, and winning awards like him. I want to be his successor and never behave unprofessionally in my career so that people will say I’m not dedicated to my work.

I will continue with music and art until the end of my life, just like my father. I also promise myself that I will never let my family down or disappoint my father.”

The singer believes that without his father’s “insight,” he wouldn’t be where he is today.

NSND HUYNH TU ONCE CRIED OVER HIS SON DUE TO MARITAL PROBLEMS

Soobin Hoang Son once confided that his personality was shaped by his own experiences. He described his family as extremely gentle and non-confrontational. However, there was a time when he feared his father due to the rigorous training in playing musical instruments. His parents wanted him to be serious about his musical path and study piano at a higher level, but after going through some family difficulties, he decided to stop playing the piano and switch to singing.

When he started singing, the person he clashed with was his mother, as his father was no longer living with them. Soobin Hoang Son understood his mother’s sacrifices for him but couldn’t bring himself to follow her wishes to continue his studies. There were times when his mother would shout, “Go to school!” or they would lie in each other’s arms and cry. The singer still gets emotional whenever he mentions his mother, despite his usually cold exterior.

Recently, SOOBIN revealed a family crisis.

Regarding his parents’ relationship, SOOBIN shared in an interview: “Currently, the relationship between my father and me has improved, and we occasionally talk and meet. After many years, things are no longer as heavy as they used to be. I also have a stable job and life. My mother is happier and laughs more often. We can now talk and interact comfortably, and the uncomfortable feeling is gone.”

He praised his father for being very handsome and always wished to be as handsome and charismatic as him. The singer believes that his father’s artistic talent and romantic style have earned him the admiration of many people. When SOOBIN shared a photo of them together on social media, many fans commented: “The genes in this family are strong; both father and son are handsome.”

“As for family matters, those are adult issues and are now in the past. Each person has made their own decisions, so I don’t blame anyone or feel sad anymore. I just hope that from now on, peace will remain in my family, and there will be no more storms.” The 9x singer confided.

At the age of 65, People’s Artist Huynh Tu remains charismatic, and SOOBIN wishes to be as handsome as his father.

In a program, People’s Artist Huynh Tu shared that after his marriage fell apart, he would cry whenever he saw his son: “Seeing SOOBIN made me cry. SOOBIN has gone through more hardships than his peers. There was a time when I couldn’t be with him, and he had to make all the decisions on his own. Recently, SOOBIN has opened up to me about this, as he used to keep it to himself like a hidden wound. This is because SOOBIN loves his mother very much.

Especially when his mother chose not to remarry and accepted the hardships to devote herself to her son. There was a period when SOOBIN was affected and fell into a slump, partly because of me and the family. In the end, everything turned out well, like it was meant to be.”

People’s Artist Huynh Tu considers his son as his most valuable asset.

The artist believes that his most valuable asset is his beloved son: “SOOBIN has built a very stable career. And, most importantly, he has a clean private life. Compared to other stars of this generation, SOOBIN is ‘spotless.’ I don’t need him to be famous; I’m already very satisfied with how he is now.

I don’t have anything; my only asset is SOOBIN. One thing that makes me even more satisfied is that recently, SOOBIN has become more mature and has a deeper understanding of music, according to my definition of the world of music. SOOBIN has started to think about traditions and wants to incorporate traditional cultural elements into modern music. The essence of Vietnamese culture is respected and showcased in many youth-oriented programs. I am honored and proud of this.

Traditional musical instruments, folk melodies, and lullabies… if they are played regularly, will add beautiful colors to the image of our country. Recently, in addition to composing, singing, and blending traditional elements into his performances, SOOBIN has also learned to play the drums and guitar. He does an excellent job with each instrument, and I am very proud of him.”
