Beards have long been associated with masculinity and confidence for men. However, when it comes to beard care, there is a fine line between a well-groomed look and one that is unkempt and a source of self-consciousness. For this reason, beard maintenance, including shaving and trimming, has become a top priority for many men. Some even believe that regular shaving can lead to a longer life.

This belief stems from the idea that a thick, long beard, if not properly maintained, can become a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses, especially when the face is washed or the body sweats. In such an environment, the risk of bacterial growth increases, and if not removed promptly, these bacteria can enter the body, leading to long-term health issues and even life-threatening complications.

To shed light on this topic, international experts conducted a survey of over 4,400 bearded men. Surprisingly, the results indicated that men who shaved daily had a mortality rate of only 31%, while those who didn’t shave regularly had a rate as high as 45%.

Additionally, the experts predicted that those who maintained a consistent shaving routine would have a lower risk of mortality in the future. However, they also acknowledged that this study alone couldn’t establish a direct link between shaving frequency and longevity, as other factors like genetics, underlying health conditions, and lifestyle choices, such as smoking and alcohol consumption, also play a significant role.

While shaving frequency may not directly impact lifespan, improper shaving techniques can certainly affect one’s health. Many men believe that they can shave whenever they want, but timing is crucial to avoid skin damage and potential health issues. Therefore, it’s essential for men to be mindful of the following three moments when shaving may not be advisable:

**1. After Physical Exertion:** Exercise is not only beneficial for overall health and immunity but also enhances a man’s attractiveness. However, shaving immediately after a workout is a common mistake. Increased blood flow during exercise causes blood vessels to dilate, and any accidental nicks or cuts while shaving can lead to a higher risk of infection.

**2. Right After a Meal:** In today’s fast-paced world, many men juggle work and family pressures, leaving little time for self-care. As a result, activities like bathing and shaving often occur right after dinner. However, this practice can be risky as blood rushes to the digestive system after a meal to aid digestion, making the skin more sensitive. Shaving during this time can damage the outer layer of the skin, so it’s recommended to wait at least 1-2 hours after eating before reaching for the razor.

**3. Before Showering:** Shaving before taking a shower is not advisable. As the body temperature rises during a shower, blood vessels dilate, increasing blood circulation and the risk of infection.

Men who shaved daily had a 31% mortality rate, while those who didn’t shave regularly had a rate of 45%
