According to Dr. Chu Thi Dung, who works at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy – Campus 3, consuming alcoholic beverages can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and fatigue.
To minimize these symptoms and aid your body’s recovery, try these natural drinks:
Filtered Water
Drinking water is a simple yet effective way to counteract the effects of alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates the body, and drinking water helps dilute the alcohol concentration in the blood, aids detoxification through urination, and rehydrates the body.
Drink 1-2 glasses of water immediately after consuming alcohol. Continue sipping small amounts throughout the day to maintain your body’s water balance.
It is recommended to consume at least 2-3 liters of water daily to stay hydrated and support the body’s detoxification process. Opt for warm water instead of cold to avoid irritating the stomach and aid digestion. Don’t overhydrate to avoid water intoxication.

Fresh Ginger Water
Ginger is not only a wonderful spice but also offers numerous health benefits. It stimulates blood circulation, alleviates headaches and nausea, and helps the body eliminate alcohol quickly. Containing gingerol, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and aids digestion, making it useful in reducing feelings of fullness and nausea, especially after indulgent meals.
Ingredients
– 3-4 slices of fresh ginger
– 1 teaspoon of honey
– 250 ml of warm water
Preparation
1. Boil the ginger in 250 ml of water for about 5 minutes.
2. Pour the mixture into a cup, add honey, and stir well to dissolve.
Drink it while it’s still warm to optimize its benefits. Consuming 1 to 2 cups of fresh ginger water, spaced an hour apart, will help alleviate the unpleasant symptoms.

Tomato Juice
Tomato juice is an excellent choice for your health. Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and glutathione, both essential for liver protection and detoxification, mitigating the harmful effects of alcohol. Vitamin C boosts immunity and soothes nausea associated with alcohol consumption.
To prepare the juice, use 2 ripe tomatoes and optionally add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to enhance the flavor. Wash the tomatoes, then either juice them or blend and strain the mixture to remove the pulp. Add salt, if using, and stir. Consume immediately to get the full nutritional benefit.
Drink a glass (250 ml) right after drinking alcohol. If needed, have another glass after 2 hours to further support your body’s detoxification process.

Fresh Coconut Water
Fresh coconut water is a natural source of electrolytes like potassium and sodium, effectively rehydrating the body, balancing electrolyte levels, and reducing fatigue caused by alcohol consumption. It also helps restore lost minerals quickly.
Drink about 300-400 ml of coconut water, equivalent to one coconut, immediately after drinking alcohol. However, limit your intake to a maximum of two coconuts per day to avoid impacting kidney function.
For optimal quality, consume fresh coconut water immediately after opening the coconut.
