State representative Marvin Lim discovered this vegetable when he visited the village where his mother grew up in the Philippines. Since then, he has researched and discussed with experts from Florida, Texas, to learn how these states cultivate morning glory without harming the environment. The petition to allow the cultivation of morning glory in Georgia received 100,000 signatures with high approval.

In 2022, the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) officially allowed restaurants in the state to import and include morning glory in their menus to serve customers. However, the cultivation of morning glory is still not permitted in Georgia. Supermarkets and grocery stores are only allowed to sell morning glory in cases where “the roots are deeply cut to prevent regrowth” so that customers cannot replant it. Until now, this vegetable has appeared in regular grocery stores, selling at a more reasonable price, about 6 USD/kg (over 140,000 VND). But during off-season, the price can reach 143,000 VND/0.454kg, equivalent to 360,000 VND/kg.
