You should avoid placing these four things near your air conditioner. Relocate them if they are currently in that spot.

1. Houseplants

It is common to place houseplants indoors, even in rooms with air conditioners. The thinking is that the plants will add moisture to the air, making the environment more comfortable when the AC is running and drying out the air.

However, while houseplants can be kept in the same room as the air conditioner, they should not be placed directly under the unit. The direct blast of cold air can be harmful to the plants and may cause them to wither.

2. Bed

Some people prefer to position their bed directly under the air conditioner so that the cool air blows onto their body. However, this is not advisable.

Over time, the direct blast of air can negatively impact our physical health, particularly our respiratory system and joints. Therefore, it is best to avoid placing the bed directly under or directly across from the air conditioner. Instead, try positioning the bed diagonally or in a different corner of the room.

3. Wooden Furniture

Wooden furniture already has a relatively short lifespan, and placing it directly in the path of the air conditioner’s airflow will only shorten it further. The constant blast of cold air can cause the wood to crack and deteriorate prematurely.

4. Water

You may have heard that placing a bowl of water under the air conditioner is a good way to increase humidity and make the room cooler faster. However, this is not a good idea.

When you place a bowl of water directly under the air conditioner, the airflow creates a cycle that not only lowers the temperature but can also be detrimental to your health. Instead, if you want to add moisture to the room, place a bowl of water or a humidifier in a corner, just not directly under the AC unit.
