On her recent visit, Cat Tuong found her garden overgrown with grass and many fruits past their harvest season. She shared: “The path was covered in grass, and the bitter melon was left unharvested. The purple longan tree dropped all its fruits, and the mangoes, though large, were blemished.” She particularly regretted the loss of a commemorative tree she had planted with Tiet Cuong, which had died back to a few branches.

The garden in Cat Tuong’s hometown of Vinh Long was lush and overgrown with grass.

Cat Tuong expressed her sadness over the dying longan tree, recalling: “I remember when Tiet Cuong and I used to hide and pick longans from this tree. It used to be so fruitful and tasty. Look at how barren it is now.”

Her father shared that only a few branches of the longan tree remained, and the rest had been cut down. They used to have three healthy trees, but now only one remains. They also have a unique variety of purple longans.

The host managed to gather a few longans to satisfy her craving. However, most of the fruits were still unripe, except for a few sweet, ripe ones.

They harvested an abundance of dragon beans, filling an entire bag from just three bushes. These would be delicious dipped in fermented shrimp paste.

While gathering vegetables, Cat Tuong accidentally stepped on and broke a water pipe without realizing it. She shared: “It’s almost time to pump water for the plants, and now I’ve broken the pipe. My father has to find tools to fix it. I guess I’m a troublemaker!”

Her father, a handyman, fixed the pipe with his own tools. Cat Tuong shared: “Since I was little, I’ve never seen anyone charge my father for repairs! He fixes everything himself, from bicycles to cars, engines, electrical work, digging holes, catching mice, and snakes. As long as it doesn’t involve taking a life, my father can do it.”

While her father continued harvesting vegetables, Cat Tuong rested in a gazebo in the garden, surrounded by a small pond. She suggested that her father buy some fish to stock the pond.

The host exclaimed: “This is the life! Having a garden like this when you’re older is fantastic! Who wants to come and fish with me in the countryside?”

“I have the land and the garden ready. All we need is to tend to a few chickens, stock the pond with fish, and grow some vegetables, and we’ll have enough food to live on. No need to worry about starvation,” she added.

Cat Tuong was most excited about harvesting mangoes. She joked: “Our mangoes may look beautiful, but they’re sour! Anyone who likes to dip them in palm sugar or fermented shrimp paste, contact me.”

She lamented the state of their mango-picking tool, saying: “We’ve had this tool for years, and it’s still the same. We pick the mangoes, and they fall and break!”

The mangoes were quite large, as Cat Tuong demonstrated by holding one up to her face.

Next, the father-daughter duo harvested coconuts. This was the first season the coconut tree bore fruit, and it yielded an abundance of coconuts.

Cat Tuong climbed up and proudly twisted the coconuts off their stems, exclaiming: “It’s easy, Dad! Nothing can stop me!”

After cutting one open, she realized it was unripe. The coconuts were heavy, and as she carried them, the 7x host joked that she had become a real farmer.

After the harvest, Cat Tuong and her father loaded their vehicle with produce, filling both the trunk and their arms. Fans enjoyed the harvest scene but commented: “The garden looks like the Amazon rainforest now!”
