Recently, Ms. Tuong Vi, a businesswoman and resident of Ho Chi Minh City, shared insights into her cozy home and her secrets to maintaining a tidy and spotless living space. Her post on a social media group garnered significant attention.
Ms. Tuong Vi, a proud mother of two, shared her story.
Ms. Vi’s home boasts a modest 41 square meters of land, encompassing three stories and featuring six primary rooms. The living room, a typical feature of townhouse-style homes, is not particularly spacious in terms of width. To create a more open and airy atmosphere, Ms. Vi opted for a minimalist approach, furnishing the space with only a sofa set and a table. Abundant greenery and flowers further enhance the freshness and brightness of the room.

The home embraces a modern aesthetic, characterized by light color tones and simple furnishings, to counteract the limited space. Emphasizing convenience and comfort, Ms. Vi ensures that everything has its designated place, maintaining a neat and orderly environment.
When it comes to keeping her home immaculate, Ms. Vi swears by a fundamental principle: “Do it right the first time.” She graciously shared her three-step process for organizing and cleaning her living space.
First, define functional areas within the home, especially the kitchen.
According to Ms. Vi, establishing clear functional areas enables all family members to understand the purpose and contents of each space. This promotes efficient usage and facilitates easier maintenance and cleaning.

Second, arrange items according to their designated functional areas, conduct regular inspections, and maintain order.
In each area, Ms. Vi employs a filing system-like approach to organizing items. She categorizes similar items together, grouping them by type. Storage boxes are utilized to differentiate between categories, and labels are affixed to individual items as well as the groups they belong to.
This method prevents clutter and makes locating items a breeze, saving time and effort. It also enables Ms. Vi to keep track of the quantity and quality of each group of items.

Ms. Vi’s kitchen features both upper and lower cabinets, providing ample space for kitchen utensils, appliances, and food items. Frequently used items are conveniently placed on the countertop for easy access.
Cups and plates are neatly organized by type and purpose.
The cupboards are equally well-organized, with plates sorted by type (soup plates, daily use, colored plates) and cups arranged by style (Japanese-style cups, Vietnamese rice bowls, small bowls, pho bowls, and sauce dishes).
A well-organized pantry with labeled storage boxes.
In the pantry, similar items are grouped together and placed in labeled storage boxes. Ms. Vi shared, “I designated specific purposes for each refrigerator from the start, making storage, retrieval, and maintenance more accessible.”
Third, establish a suitable cleaning schedule for each area.
“Neatness and cleanliness stem from consistently maintaining the hygiene of our belongings,” Ms. Vi asserted. “I avoid procrastination and adhere to a regular cleaning schedule. When we diligently take care of the little things, the bigger picture falls into place.”
Ms. Vi tailors her cleaning routine to each functional area. For instance, she makes it a habit to clean kitchen utensils and wipe down the kitchen immediately after cooking. As a result, the stove, walls, and cabinets remain spotless, free from grease buildup, making kitchen maintenance a breeze.

The living room is swept and mopped daily, while the bathroom is sanitized after each use, ensuring a clean and dry environment. Bedrooms and study rooms are vacuumed daily and thoroughly cleaned once a week.
By consistently following this routine without exceptions or delays, Ms. Vi’s home remains tidy and clean. Additionally, the regular upkeep makes cleaning a more manageable and quicker task.

All family members contribute to household chores, including sweeping, cleaning the bathroom, washing dishes, and wiping down the dining table. However, Ms. Vi primarily takes charge of cleaning the kitchen and other rooms, while her husband tends to the plants, cleans the ceilings, and maintains the front door and windows.
“Our home is a sanctuary of love and support for all family members,” Ms. Vi shared. “We all contribute to creating a joyful, loving, and harmonious environment, and we find happiness in working together.”
