Clothes are easy to burn when ironing

1. Clothes made of cotton yarn

Cotton clothes

For clothes made from cotton materials such as t-shirts and children’s clothes, if you notice a yellow burn on the fabric while ironing, it is important to immediately stop ironing. Sprinkle a small amount of salt on the burn and gently rub it into the fabric. Leave the clothes in the sunlight for a few minutes and then wash them with clean water. This process will help reduce or completely remove the burn mark.

2. Felt clothing or articles

If you have felt clothing or items, you can remove the burn mark by washing and rubbing the fabric layer in the affected area multiple times. As the velvet layer diminishes, use a sewing needle to hook the fabric in that area until a new layer of velvet appears. Once the new layer of velvet is visible, cover it with a moist towel and use an iron to press it. Remember to iron in the opposite direction of the old layer. After removing the towel, the burn mark should be gone.

3. Silk clothes

Silk fabric material

Silk is a delicate fabric that can easily scorch or get damaged when ironed incorrectly. If you notice yellow stains on silk clothes, create a thick paste-like solution by mixing NAOH (or caustic soda) with water. Apply this solution to the burn mark and let it dry. Once dry, gently scrape off the powder-like residue with a fabric scraper. The burn mark should disappear along with the powder.

4. Clothes made of chemical fibers

When dealing with clothing made from chemical fibers, place a soft microfiber towel soaked in water over the burn mark. Use an iron to continuously press and glide over the towel. The burn mark should gradually disappear. If the burn is not severe, a few minutes of ironing should be sufficient to remove it entirely.

5. Thick fabric jacket

For thick fabric jackets, avoid excessive washing as it can lead to fabric wear, damage, fading, and tearing. If a thick coat gets burned, place a fine sandpaper sheet over the burn mark and gently brush it with a small brush until the burn mark is no longer noticeable.
