1 Use a razor
Step 1: Place the garment with the stain on a flat surface for easier handling.
Note: Do not wash your clothes after they’ve been glued. If you’ve already washed the fabric before noticing the stickiness, removing the stain will require more effort.
Step 2: Carefully scrape off the adhesive layer from the fabric using an object with a flat edge, such as a small knife or an old credit card. Remove as much substance as possible for easier removal.
If you’ve already washed the fabric, you may not be able to remove as much glue from the garment.
Step 3: Prepare a tool to remove the adhesive. Use a glue remover or water substitute that serves the same purpose for stubborn glue. Additionally, a soft brush or an old soft cotton pad can be effective in removing the adhesive.
Step 4: Test the removal product in a small, inconspicuous area of the garment. This will help determine if the product will stain the fabric. Delicate fabrics like satin or silk are more susceptible to staining compared to cotton or polyester.
If the glue remover stains your clothes, choose a different remover.
2 Use bleach
Step 1: Choose an adhesive removal product. There are various products available for removing sticky substances from clothes and fabrics. Some popular options include dish soap, WD-40, rubbing alcohol, peanut butter, vegetable oil, nail polish remover containing acetone, and adhesive products like Goo-Gone.
Step 2: Apply a small amount of the removal product to the affected area of the garment. The amount needed will depend on the size of the stain, so start with a small amount.
For liquid products like nail polish remover, soak a cotton ball and then apply it to the cloth.
Step 3: Use your fingers or a soft brush to rub the glued area of the fabric until the adhesive disappears. This process may take up to 10-15 minutes. Scrape off any protruding pieces during the process.
Step 4: After removing the glue, wash the clothes as usual.
3 Use heat
Step 1: Use heat to remove the glue on clothes. Place an iron on the glue stain and wait for it to heat up. Do not use the steam setting.
Note: Have tissues ready when using this method.
Step 2: Place a layer of paper towels on the glue stain, ensuring that it covers the entire affected area. If the stain is large, you may need additional paper towels.
Step 3: Hold the iron over the paper towel on top of the stain for 5 to 10 seconds. Be cautious with fabrics like polyester or acetate, as they may be more flammable.
Step 4: Remove the iron and begin scraping off the adhesive. Once the iron has heated up sufficiently (around 5-10 seconds), use a flat edge like an old credit card or your fingernail to scrape off the adhesive.
Step 5: Repeat the heating process for 5 to 10 seconds and then scrape off the adhesive until it is completely removed from the clothes. Repeat this process if necessary.
After removing the glue, wash the clothes as usual.
4 Put in the freezer
Step 1: Place the glued clothes in the freezer compartment. Some adhesives, like hot glue or chewing gum, become brittle when frozen.
Note: This method is more effective for adhesives like gum and glue-like substances compared to stickers or adhesives that have penetrated the fabric.
Step 2: Once the adhesive is frozen, remove the clothes from the freezer. Immediately begin scraping off the substance using a flat knife or old credit card. The frozen glue should pop off and separate from the fabric.
Step 3: If the adhesive is still present after freezing, try another method to remove the remaining stain. Consider using heat or an adhesive removal product to eliminate any remaining residue.
Once the stain has been completely removed, wash the clothes as usual.
