Televisions
Televisions are household appliances that have become ubiquitous. Most people tend to turn off their televisions using the remote control after use. However, doing so only puts the television into a standby mode. An experiment measuring the power consumption of a television before and after it was turned off revealed that after approximately 10 minutes of being turned off using the remote control, the power consumption dropped from 200W to 1.8W. While this number is relatively small, it demonstrates that even when turned off using the remote control, the television still consumes a certain amount of electricity. If this continues for an extended period, the amount of wasted electricity can become significant.
Therefore, if you will not be using your television for an extended period, it is advisable to disconnect it from the power source by unplugging it. Additionally, unplugging your television also ensures safety during thunderstorms.
Digital Television Signal Receivers
Many people do not make a habit of turning off their digital television signal receivers when they are not in use. As a result, the device remains connected to the power source and continues to operate in the background, leading to wasted electricity.
You can install a power outlet switch to easily disconnect the power supply when the device is not in use.
Phone and Computer Chargers
An experiment conducted by Adrian Kingsley Hughes from ZHNet measured the power consumption of an iPhone charger plugged in continuously for several hours. The results showed that an original charger can consume approximately 130WH/month when plugged into a power outlet continuously. Furthermore, leaving your phone or computer charger plugged into an outlet when not in use can cause the charger to age prematurely. Plugging in chargers indefinitely, even when not in use, also increases the risk of electrical fires in the home.
Devices with Time Displays
With the rapid advancement of modern technology, household appliances have become increasingly sophisticated. Many devices now incorporate time displays for convenience. Some common appliances that typically feature time displays include microwave ovens, ovens, and washing machines. These clocks operate continuously, which means they are still consuming electricity even when you are not using them.
This is an unnecessary waste of electricity. To save money on your household electricity bill, it is best to unplug these devices.
