Small tips for keeping your workspace tidy
1. Only keep what you really need on and near your desk
- Use trays for any papers you need to read.
- Prepare a container for pens and pencils and have it near your workspace.
2. Don’t leave any drinks on your desk
Go to the kitchen when you want a drink or, if you prefer, leave the drink on a small table near your workspace.
3. Reduce the amount of paper you use
Try to keep as much information as possible in folders on your computer. Before printing a document, ask yourself, “Do I really need to read this document on paper?”.
4. Scan your notes
If you have a lot of papers (newspapers, notes, spreadsheets, etc.), use a scanner and keep a digital copy in PDF format on your computer.
5. Use your smartphone to take pictures of things you need to remember
For example, take a picture of your own note, the name and address of a place you need to visit, or a diagram you need for school.
6. Get a notice board
If you really need to keep small pieces of paper, design a notice board on the wall. Check it every day and throw away old notes.
7. Clean up your workspace at the end of each day
Set aside some time to clean up your workspace and do it! If you do it every day, it only takes five minutes to start each day fresh with a clean and tidy space.
