Some areas in Hanoi’s downtown will experience power outages during hot days (Illustrative photo).
According to Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVN Hanoi), starting from May 22nd, some households in districts such as Dong Da, Nam Tu Liem, Thanh Tri, Dong Anh, Soc Son, Dan Phuong… will experience power cuts for a certain period of time.
This is to avoid overloading of certain power lines and transformer stations at certain times, causing interruptions in electricity supply throughout the city.
Here are some ways you can consider to stay cool if you are in a situation of power outage.
Use rechargeable fans

In the case of a power cut, we obviously cannot use basic cooling devices such as ceiling fan, air conditioner, standing fan… However, there is still another source of cooling which is rechargeable fans (or battery operated fans).
Currently, it is easy to find models of rechargeable fans with high power, affordable prices, suitable for use on study desks, work desks, or to bring along when traveling, camping, during power outage…
Some fan models use convenient USB charging ports, with average usage time ranging from 3 – 8 hours depending on the wind level.
Sleep, live on the ground floor

Switching to sleep and live directly on the ground floor, especially on tiled floors, is also an effective way to combat the heat during power outage.
In addition, you can also combine other methods such as blocking direct sunlight from the windows, or mopping the floor to create a cool space for the room.
Create natural convection airflow

Sealing the doors is not an optimal solution, especially when the air conditioners have stopped working.
Instead, you should find ways to enhance the ventilation of the air, which will help the room become fresher. For example, you can open both windows and the main door at the same time to let the hot air escape, and create a cross breeze through the room.
Choose appropriate clothing

Cotton material can absorb sweat very well. Therefore, you should prioritize cotton clothes during hot summer days. You should also choose light-colored clothes and accessories as they absorb less heat.
Cooling with ice water

Using ice from the refrigerator is also one of the effective cooling methods during power outage. You can use ice or ice water to cool yourself down and lower body temperature.
Moreover, you can also place a large bowl of ice in the room. The coolness from the ice will make you feel cooler and more comfortable.
