Should I unplug the induction cooktop after using it?

Induction cooktops are the modern, convenient, and energy-saving option that many households prioritize. However, most people still make mistakes when using them, especially the misconception that they need to unplug the induction cooktop after use to save electricity. Let's dive into whether it's necessary to unplug the induction cooktop after use.

Currently, if your family uses a gas stove and wants to cook the food thoroughly inside the pot, you have to heat the air below the bottom of the pot before it reaches the pot.

Therefore, only about 40% is directly transmitted to the bottom of the pot, the remaining 60% is lost to the environment.

As for induction cooktops, with the principle of directly transferring heat to the bottom of the pot, the efficiency of induction cooktops can reach up to 90%, with only about 10% of small heat being lost to the outside. It is because of this superior heating method that directly heats the food inside the pot that the efficiency of induction cooktops reaches its maximum level.

When cooking with an induction cooktop, you can comfortably touch the outer area of the cooking zone without getting burned.

The power of an induction cooktop indicates the amount of power consumed.

To calculate the monthly energy consumption of an induction cooktop, first, you need to know the power consumption of the cooktop (which is indicated on the label, packaging, and product specifications).

In addition, you also need to estimate the actual cooking time in a month.

For example, according to our estimation:

Suppose that your family buys a double induction cooktop with a power of 2 cooking zones, which is 2 x 2000W. The average cooking time for one meal is 30 minutes.

Then, it will be: 0.5 x 4000W = 2KW (electricity usage)

If 2 meals cost 1,500 VND, then you will have: 2 x 1.5 x 2 meals = 6,000 VND/day.

1 month (30 days) x 6,000 VND = 180,000 VND (for a regular induction cooktop).

What about gas stoves? Normally, a gas cylinder costs around 300,000 VND. If a family of 5 people cooks 2 meals a day, it will last about 1.5 months/cylinder, which means about 200,000 VND/month for cooking with a gas stove. Moreover, every day, you also have to face the risk of explosion and gas leaks due to counterfeit gas cylinders and stoves that are sold extensively on the market without any control from authorities.

– So should you unplug the induction cooktop after cooking?

If you don’t know whether you should unplug the induction cooktop or not, let’s consider the necessary information below before taking action.

Unplugging the induction cooktop reduces its lifespan and poses a danger to the internal circuitry and components.

Whether you should unplug the induction cooktop or not depends on the situation. If you are simply cooking a regular meal and want to unplug it after cooking to save energy, it is a mistake that can make the cooktop deteriorate faster.

The induction cooktop has a relatively high cooking power, the cooking zone heats up quickly, and the high temperature requires the fan in the cooktop to operate continuously to cool all the parts and components under the cooktop.

If you unplug the induction cooktop abruptly, the fan will stop working, and all parts will not be properly cooled.

In the case of using an induction cooktop combined with infrared cooking, the infrared cooking zone cools down slower, which can cause the glass surface to crack and burn if touched.

If you repeatedly perform the above action, you will soon have to replace the induction cooktop. The weak components, circuit boards, and control panels gradually become unstable and disabled.

In this case, you should not unplug the induction cooktop. Instead, turn off the cooktop and let the fan cool all the parts for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until the cooktop cools down, then unplug it. You don’t have to worry about consuming a lot of energy because the fan in the induction cooktop consumes very little electricity.

Wait until you feel the cooktop is cool, and the fan has stopped working before unplugging the induction cooktop to ensure its safety and take care of your induction cooktop.

Proper Use of Induction Cooktop and Infrared Cooktop

Do not obstruct the ventilation fan

If you stack spice jars or kitchen utensils to cover the ventilation area of the cooktop, it will quickly damage the cooktop because it cannot dissipate heat effectively.

Use brushes and cloth to clean the fan intake

After a period of use, you should use a brush to clean the fan intake to prevent dust from clogging the ventilation system, affecting the performance of the cooktop.
