Even when you think you have a relatively clean house, follow a weekly cleaning routine, and have a cabinet full of cleaning supplies, only when you start moving furniture and packing up everything you own will you realize how dirty every nook and cranny in your house can be.
So, make sure to clean these areas to keep your house clean and the air flowing fresh!
1. Vents and Fans
Vents and fans often accumulate a lot of dust that you may overlook. Especially when they are hidden behind furniture or located high up near the ceiling, vents can easily be ignored. But once you notice how dusty they have become after months of neglect, you’ll want to clean them regularly. The concern here is that when dirty vents are neglected, they circulate dust around the house, which can greatly affect your health.
Therefore, to clean the air, vacuum the vents using a crevice tool or use a small dusting cloth.
2. Behind the Bed
We all know that the area under the bed is a breeding ground for dust, which is why we need to diligently vacuum the carpet under the bed and the gap between the head of the bed and the wall. To avoid breathing in additional dust during your sleep, use a handheld vacuum to clean underneath the bed and behind the bed. Especially if you have a wooden headboard, you may be surprised at the amount of dust you collect.
3. Under Couch Cushions
While you may consider dusting under your sofa, what about under the cushions? Especially if you snack while binge-watching Netflix, the crevices between your couch cushions can accumulate cookie crumbs and snack crumbs… Instead of waiting for a deep cleaning session for the entire house, regularly remove all the cushions from your sofa and vacuum the area underneath. To quickly remove dust and debris, use a lint roller.
This may sound like a tedious task, but if you focus on it, rest assured it won’t take up much of your time.
4. Curtains (and Curtain Rods)
When you take down your curtains, you will immediately realize how dirty and dusty they have become. And while most of us don’t have the time and energy to wash curtains every month, set a reminder to wash them every six months. While doing so, dust the curtain rods.
5. Trash Bins
If you change the liner every time you take out the trash, you may easily overlook the crumbs and food scraps that fall to the bottom of the bin.
So, get to work and start by vacuuming up any debris and food scraps. Clean it with a pet-friendly cleaner and rinse it off with water. Try these tips to keep your trash bin smelling fresh.
6. Light Bulbs and Light Fixtures
Only when you start decluttering your home or apartment will you realize how dusty and difficult-to-clean your light bulbs and light fixtures are. To reduce dust and improve the lighting performance of light bulbs, dust and clean the glass and lampshades at least twice a year.
