1. Wash clothes with the correct load size
Every washing machine has a maximum load size. This means that the machine can only clean effectively if you fill it with the maximum amount of clothes for each wash. However, many people have a habit of overstuffing the machine because they think it is too spacious. This can affect the quality of the wash, as well as the spinning and drying process (if applicable). In humid and rainy weather, clothes take longer to dry, so it is important to pay attention to washing them with the correct load size.
2. Choose the warm water wash setting
Washing clothes with warm water helps them dry faster because the heat accelerates evaporation. If your washing machine has a hot water wash setting, remember to use it on humid days. If you are washing a variety of materials such as cotton, thin fabric, wool, and color-sensitive clothes together in the same load, it is recommended to use water at a temperature between 30°C and 40°C.
3. Use fabric softener
In damp and humid weather, clothes take longer to dry and can develop a musty smell. Therefore, when washing clothes on these days, you should use fabric softener. However, remember to choose a lightly scented fabric softener and avoid using too much. Scented fabric softeners can be a great way to uplift your mood, but they can also be overwhelming for those around you if used excessively.
4. Double spin-dry
The final stage of washing is the spin-dry cycle. The machine’s spinning force helps remove excess water, making the clothes dry faster. To further enhance the drying process, you can remove the clothes after the spin-dry cycle and start another spin-dry cycle. This will make the clothes even drier and speed up the drying process.
5. Hang clothes with spacing
Clothes dry faster when they have space for air circulation and moisture evaporation. Therefore, make sure there is enough spacing between clothes when hanging them to dry. Additionally, you can hang the clothes on a clothesline instead of stacking them to increase their surface area exposed to air.
6. Use additional drying aids
For thin clothes, the above methods should be sufficient to ensure dry and fresh-smelling clothes on humid days. However, for thicker garments like jeans and thick cotton, you may need additional drying aids such as a clothes dryer or ironing board to further expedite the drying process.
