Refrigerator is an indispensable electrical device in every household. It operates 24/7, so it consumes a considerable amount of electricity. You need to know how to adjust the mode of the refrigerator to make it work efficiently and avoid wasting electricity.
There are 2 basic adjustment buttons in the refrigerator that you should know. Both buttons have the function of adjusting the temperature of the freezer and the refrigeration compartment, but they operate on different principles.
First, let’s talk about the adjustment button located in the refrigeration compartment.
This button is usually designed in the form of a knob, used to adjust the operating power of the cooling system. When adjusting this button, the temperature of both the freezer and the refrigeration compartment will change. The larger the number, the higher the operating power of the cooling system, and the faster the refrigerator will cool down in both compartments.
The second adjustment button is located in the freezer compartment.
Refrigerators usually have only one cooling system. The cold air generated by this cooling system is distributed to the compartments by a fan inside the refrigerator. This fan is usually located above the freezer compartment.
Therefore, the adjustment button in the freezer compartment is often used to divide the airflow into each compartment inside the refrigerator.
Depending on the design of the refrigerator, this adjustment button may vary. For example, in the image above, if you slide the button to the left, more cold air will be distributed to the refrigeration compartment. If you slide the button to the right, priority will be given to the freezer compartment.
Understanding this operating principle, you can adjust the temperature and usage appropriately. For example, if you use the freezer compartment less and only focus on storing food in the refrigeration compartment, then set the fan level in the freezer compartment lower. This way, you don’t need to increase the power of the refrigerator, but the refrigeration compartment will still be cool enough.
Currently, some modern refrigerator models will replace these buttons with electronic control panels, but the function of each compartment remains the same. On the electronic control panel, there will be a section used to adjust the temperature of the refrigeration compartment and a section for the freezer compartment. You just need to adjust them according to your usage needs. For example, if you use the refrigeration compartment more and hardly store food in the freezer compartment, you should set the temperature of the freezer compartment higher to avoid wasting electricity on cooling the freezer compartment.
Some tips to save electricity
Don’t open and close the refrigerator door frequently
When cooking, you should calculate what you need and take out the necessary ingredients from the refrigerator to avoid opening and closing the refrigerator door multiple times and keeping it open for too long. Continuous opening and closing of the refrigerator door will cause changes in the internal temperature, and the cooling system will have to work harder to maintain the required temperature, resulting in higher electricity consumption.
Don’t put hot food in the refrigerator
You should not put hot food in the refrigerator because it will raise the temperature inside the refrigerator. The cooling system will have to work harder to cool down the temperature, which is necessary to maintain the freshness of the food.
Don’t put too much food in the refrigerator
You should only put a moderate amount of food in the refrigerator to ensure that the items are well preserved, and the refrigerator operates efficiently.
