Nutritional Value of Eggs
Eggs consist of two main parts: the egg white and the yolk. The yolk is where most of the nutrients are concentrated. Chicken egg yolks contain 13.6% protein, 29.8% fat, and 1.6% minerals.
Eggs are a source of valuable fats that help prevent atherosclerosis and lower cholesterol levels. They are also a good source of vitamins and minerals.
Should You Soak Newly Boiled Eggs in Ice Water?
Soaking boiled eggs in water is a common practice. Many people believe that soaking boiled eggs in cold water helps cool them down faster and makes peeling the shell easier.
PGS. TS Nguyen Duy Thinh, from the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology at Hanoi University of Technology, has stated that soaking boiled eggs in cold water does not affect their quality or nutritional value.
However, using ice water is a different story. Most people use tap water, which may contain bacteria, and then add ice cubes made from unboiled water. This creates an environment that allows bacteria to enter the eggs.
Tips for Boiling and Peeling Eggs Properly
– When boiling eggs, make sure to wash the shells thoroughly and add a pinch of salt to the water.
– Place the eggs in the pot before turning on the heat. This will prevent the shells from cracking due to sudden temperature changes. Boil for 10 minutes for hard-boiled eggs and 6 minutes for soft-boiled eggs.
– To easily peel the shells, soak the eggs in room temperature or cold water without ice.
– Use boiled and cooled water to soak the eggs.
With this information, we hope you now know the do’s and don’ts of boiling and soaking eggs. Say no to soaking freshly boiled eggs in ice-cold water from now on!
