Your iPhone or iPad has reached the time to replace the battery, but for some reason you haven’t been able to do so. Your device is old and with the new iOS and iPadOS, it doesn’t have enough battery life to last the whole day or you can’t charge the battery multiple times a day.

Regardless of the reasons mentioned above, they will lead to a situation where the device can quickly run out of power when you need it the most.

The good news is that there is a trick that can help your device survive longer. Specifically, if you own an iPhone or iPad, you have likely received a notification about the “Low Power Mode” when the battery level drops to 20%.

This special mode allows you to extend the usage time of your device by limiting some features. However, by default, it will automatically turn off when your iPhone or iPad reaches 80% battery while charging – is there a way to always keep Low Power Mode on?

First, we need to note that Low Power Mode will disable features like 5G (except for video streaming) on iPhone 12 and later models, auto lock (default is 30 seconds), screen brightness, refresh rate (maximum of 60 Hz) on iPhone and iPad models with ProMotion display, some image effects, iCloud Photos (temporarily paused), automatic downloads, email fetching, and background app refresh.

If you are satisfied without these features – as long as you save battery life, here are the steps to keep Low Power Mode always on:

+ You need to open the Shortcuts app > Automation.

+ Tap on the + button in the top right corner, then select Create Personal Automation.

+ Scroll down and select Low Power Mode.

+ Deselect the option Is Turned On and select the option Is Turned Off, then tap on Next.

+ Tap on Add Action.

+ Tap inside the search field and search for the Set Low Power Mode command, then select the command below.

+ Make sure that the Turn and On options are selected, then continue to tap on Next.

+ Turn off Ask Before Running and tap on Don’t Ask to confirm.

+ Tap on Done to finish.

From now on, you can turn on and off Low Power Mode anytime by going to Settings > Battery. Also, note that if you want to turn off this feature, you will have to turn it off in Shortcuts by disabling the Enable This Automation switch.
