Then, pour 2 tablespoons of white vinegar onto the cutting board’s surface and spread it evenly with your hands. Because white vinegar is acidic, it can soften dirt and disinfect well. Then sprinkle a little salt on the surface of the cutting board to sanitize it, kill bacteria, and create friction for the wooden cutting board’s surface. Finally, leave the cutting board like that for about 10 minutes to enhance its disinfection and bacteria killing ability.
Some other simple ways to clean a wooden cutting board
Soaking with salt
First, you need to take about 100 grams of salt and put it in a bowl, then add a little water and stir the mixture. After that, pour this saltwater bowl into a basin and soak the cutting board in it for 2 hours. During soaking, you should regularly flip the cutting board to evenly absorb the saltwater on both sides of the wooden cutting board. After 2 hours, take out the cutting board and place it in a dry, airy place to dry quickly.
Use toothpaste
After pouring white vinegar onto the surface of the wooden cutting board and leaving it for about 10 minutes, you can wait for the cutting board to dry on its own or take a sufficient amount of toothpaste and apply it to the surface of the cutting board, then use a brush to scrub vigorously. At that time, the abrasive in the toothpaste will help to clean and disinfect the wooden cutting board. In particular, this method will gradually remove long-standing dirt on the cutting board’s surface.
Brush with cooking oil
After rinsing both sides of the wooden cutting board, you need to use a dry cloth to remove excess water and apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the surface and edges of the cutting board. Then wrap the cutting board with cling wrap and leave it for 6 hours for the cooking oil to evenly absorb into the wooden cutting board. Because cooking oil is lighter than water, it will form a thin film covering the surface of the cutting board, thereby isolating it from the air and having an anti-mold, anti-bacterial, effect on the wooden cutting board. After about 6 hours, remove the cling wrap and wash the cutting board with baking soda.
Some notes when using a wooden cutting board
– It is recommended to wash the cutting board immediately after use and hang it in a cool, dry place to dry quickly and avoid getting moldy.
– Do not soak the wooden cutting board in water because its surface can absorb water, which can cause the cutting board to crack or grow mold and bacteria.
– Do not use one cutting board for cutting raw and cooked food. If using the same cutting board, it must be cleaned immediately and disinfected with salt, vinegar, lemon juice,…
